Suggestions to make the game more challenging

Yeah guys, stop having fun, this shit is serious.

This isn’t GoldSrc, it’s disabled by default, unless you were talking about the backwards hop. And rumor has it that Kane re-implemented HL2’s W and +jump bunnyhop, at least that’s what’s circulating my forums.

It’s also a huge game style change. In my opinion difficulty settings should change the difficulty and not the actual gameplay.

Congratulations! You phrased the giant flaw with many of the suggestions wonderfully!

Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard “Internets is SRS BIZNS” more times than I can count.

It’s just that I’ve been going to this forum for some time now, and it’s god-damn annoying when someone tries to create a thread that’s even remotely serious, and it gets so flooded with unfunny spam posts & redundancy that sifting through that sea of shit to get to the few good ideas doesn’t seem worth it.

Just because we don’t have to be serious all of the time, doesn’t mean we should be childish all of the time. It just makes you look like a troll.

But difficulty can change the gameplay. If you’re on Easy you can charge into a group of Combine Soldiers with an SMG and spray them all to death, if you are on Hard, you cannot do that as you’ll be shot to death before you can kill them all.

I think difficulty-wise, instead of altering damage output and intake, they should make the soldiers more accurate with their weapons, and more brutal. Tossing grenades more often or even firing the Grenade Launcher at you instead of using a less effective Hand-Grenade.

you just described 80% of this forum, why are you surprised

I’m not. It’s just that whenever I try to encourage a little bit of civility, people fight it tooth and nail, and I just want to understand why.

The grenades in Half-Life 2 are just too conspicuous for instance… I think that’ll be different in Black Mesa with the noiseless MK2 grenades the HECU grunts are using.

That is simply changing the effectiveness of certain tactics because existing characteristics are exaggerated. What you suggested is changing that fundamental way you approach enemies based on difficulty. A very skilled person could still be effective charging into a room picking off enemies and moving evasively. If you make it so that on easy you can simply shoot an enemy anywhere and damage, but on hard you have to shoot specific locations to be at all effective it changes how the game is played, and not how effectively you play the game. I think difficulty should exaggerate or minimize existing gameplay characteristics, not introduce entirely different gameplay characteristics.

heeello
the suggestions at thread opening were really retarded at all hm?
i haven’t read all answers, but i hope im not the only one who noticed that.
i think it’s actually the right way like it was in the previous hl parts.
And if that isn’t enaugh maybe i should appear as enemy in your game.

greetings

I find this type of thread embarrassing, alot of the time I find easy too difficult. :frowning:

Sometimes HECU will headshot you and kill you instantly. This is uncommon though.

Hard enough?

You know I’ve read this thread from start to finish and Dias does make a good point. Why do you post in threads just to mock the Original poster? It doesn’t make you the bigger man. It doesn’t make you smarter, it just makes you a jackass laughing at other’s expenses like a middle schooler.

Anyways Back on topic.

Ramping up the health and lowering your damage does help alot in the fact you are making it difficult. But you’re just going to use the same stratagy over and over. Could make it so enemies actively learn your stratagy and modify theirs to push you into a corner, such as using grenades more to flush you out of cover, or cooking grenades before throwing to damage you before you can react. Even baiting you out with a lone enemy, then ambushing you. Of course most of my suggestions would take time to code in, even longer if we’re talking about actively learning how you think. Maybe randomize most opponents attack patterns like say usually Marines stay close together and fire from afar on Gordon Freeman. Some times utilizing Grenades when he’s behind cover.

Say Marine A gets the idea to flank and pull Gordon out from behind cover while B and C cover him. Marine C suddenly changes tactics and throws a grenade himself quickly pulling Gorden out into the middle of the battle surrounding him. Under fire unless Gordon quickly reacts and can find a way out or to kill Marines A B and C, he’d quickly fall to the barrage of machine bullets and impact grenades.

again it might take time to implement but it could be worth looking at.

and FWI Alles_Ratten, please don’t post useless videos in a thread that has nothing to do with it. Thats just a waste of people’s time.

Well, we are insinuating that we know how difficult this mod is when none of us have played it yet. Perhaps this will be the ONE mod that is actually difficult on it’s hardest setting. Until then, we will see.

Well if it’s like Raminator says, it is.

to make the game more challenging i would suggest :

-make gordons bullets do more damage (2 to 3 shots to kill a human target , 6 to 10 depending of the allien you are shooting xD)
-make the player more vulnerable to fire and attacks (3 to 4 shots to die by a bullet , 2 or 3 claw attacks by a zombie ,etc, etc)
-change weapon mechanics , make singleshoting better than spray and pray at long distances , realistic loadouts (30 bullets per mag in the mp5).
-remove crosshair
-add smoke and flash granades to the HECU.
-etc.

actually , i just described a tactical blackmesa minimod :stuck_out_tongue:

You are supposed to play using your hands. Not your genitals.

Also, I find it a bit interesting that people feel there needs to be suggestions for this. I’m sure difficulty levels will be scaled using already agreed upon adjustments and will be based off internal play testing. I’m kinda of the assumption that if the devs are able to figure out all the things they obviously have thus far that they should be able to figure out a reasonable scale of difficulties. I’m not thinking this will be their greatest challenge.

What next? Suggestions on how to get their computers to boot faster to get to work faster? I’m going to relax with the thought that they’ll figure it out.

Only masters can play with thier genitals…

Please.
Don’t event bother comparing yourself to me.
