Suggestions for the final Steam BM version

Here’s some lens flare: https://i.imgur.com/tvgd9bV.png

I don’t know what you mean by “modern” lens flare, but I think anything less subtle than that would be gimmicky.

I’ve never really understood why everyone wants lens flare in games. It blocks your view and it’s not justifiable for most player characters.
And no, Gordon Freeman does not count as a character who can logically have lens flare; his glasses would have to be like, 8cm thick to cause flare.

Moving on, it’d be nice if after the final release the devs wrote up some documentation on the new entities for mappers, such as how to use the mortar field, set up the Apache be/not be in ‘boss’ mode, etc.

I can’t say for sure whether it was there or not the first two times. I can just say that I didn’t see it, and I didn’t hear it. I expected it, but I never encountered it. So by the third time, I did not expect it anymore, and my guard was out the window. That’s when it decided to strike me.

the vortigaunt bit of the resonance cascade is nowhere near as creepy as it was in HL1. It would have had a better effect if they actually had face and eye animations, but sicne every vort in the game is stuck staring to the lower right corner of the screen it just felt kind of staged.

Thanks for the reply your-name-here. I know a lot of that stuff is rather expensive and would require a lot of performance and tweaking, or is even impossible. But like I said I was only dreaming  Not really suggesting you add it. BM is perfect as it is. Cheers!

Targ: What I meant about the ‘modern’ lens flares is something like Crysis 3 has when you look at the sun or lights in a corridor etc.

I believe it’s called sunrays. Unless he meant this effect that Fakefactory’s Cinematic Mod uses as of late, where stuff reflect from Gordon’s helmet.

I agree. Having the xenian environment and the way they walk up to you just was nowhere near as creepy as in HL1 where you are instantly in front of them, in total darkness, like you’d interrupted some sort of alien council or ritual in an otherworldly plane of existence.

You are missing an important thing, you can only assume that the scene in HL1 was meant to creep out the player. Don’t forget the Vorts are in fact friendly and I even believe that originally they planned for Gordon and them to ally already during the Xen battles.

I don’t know if that would work well realistically. A squad of soldiers is going to have to communicate with each other verbally on some level. Hand signals can only go so far. Plus, they’re not stealth soldiers, like the assassins are.

I’m still not reading the above posts! Hooray!
ANYWAY: Fix this:

Seriously, the launcher is way, WAY to powerful. It would help a lot if it were like Half-Life 1 and 2.
And yes, it’s faster in HL2, but not that fast.

Yeah, Lunch that Grenade!

Although I expected that cockroaches were not suppose to be steppable, it was for the good of performance so I don’t mind. But what about the leeches? If they were to be added again, then how?

Side note:
What would happen if Valve regards Black Mesa as canon to HL? What could that mean to other similar mods out there? I mean Black Mesa is Half-Life reimagined right?

The vortigaunts in the resonance cascade? I’ll agree that it was fking creepy as hell to somehow just appear in front of them in HL1, maybe got them thinking: "Who the fuing hell is this guy?"

Why not? Too lazy?

What do you expect, it’s a fucking explosive projectile?

(also your comic is terribad)

I don’t understand the question. If leeches were added again, they’d probably be particle effects. I don’t know why they weren’t present in the current release.

This will never happen. Don’t even think about it.

Is there any chance we’ll see more of the scientist dialog implemented? There’s a whole ton of it that never seems to show up ingame, like a large portion of the randomized predisaster stuff, and the “player death” dialogs, all of which are hilarious. More than a few of them don’t even have lipsynch data, which is a real shame because I have no idea how to edit phonemes properly.

From the Wiki:
"Later, play-testing shown this was highly confusing to the testers. As revealed by Nathan Ayres, “[the leeches] were making the underwater sections, especially Apprehension, too difficult. It’s already hard enough to explore underwater in near pitch blackness, it was too much to have your health also being eaten away by creatures you could barely see and were too quick to kill. Playtesters didn’t understand why they were losing health and once we told them, they routinely wasted all their ammo trying to shoot the critters, in a chapter with not much ammo. [3]”

Because of this, the leeches were scrapped in the first release. "

Are there any plans to add more options to the BM options menu? Like changing the way the weapon menu selects weapons (to make it more like the other games), and turning off weapon lowering? I think that would be nice.

Also, an auto-crouch jump feature.

Nice ideas! But I don’t know if it’s possible, I guess so…

I like how everyone reacted to that absolute garbage comic.
Seriously, it’s almost as if someone didn’t know it was meant to be bad.

Yes, I am lazy.

people react to it because it’s bad and unnecessary, doesn’t matter how it’s meant

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
