Steam for iOS and Android

The app is there. But it’s a closed beta at the moment. It’s available for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation and iPad with iOS 4.0 or higher and for all android versions as it seems.

found this an hour or two ago. Promptly came.

What about Windows phones ?

you mean those phones nobody cares about?

haha, yeah seriously?
Everyone I know who bought a WP instantly installed Android.

If someone would be kind enough to buy me at least a couple of Galaxy Nexus, I would instantly try to get into the beta of that.

hm, just downloaded it and it says “you have no beta access” :frowning:

Being able to use Steam chat on the go could be nice, but I doubt it’d be very effective otherwise.

Sitting on the bus/in traffic/etc. “Oops, I forgot to buy insert game here I should do that right now!” Not much point unless they let you start the download on the computer that you have idling with Steam running.

That would be useful.

ssomebody play smartphone scrabble w. me. hit up hpn on wordfeud

I still can’t understand why people requested one in the first place.

People didn’t request it, the phones did. That’s how smart those phones are.

reason for it or not, the app works and looks great.

Lol’d…but still can’t see the point of all this. I have an iPhone4 but really…do I really wan’t to play on that piece of shit? Agreed thst it should/will be better but for now, I have an jailbroken device that I use for GPS…and worms. nothing else. It might just be me in my middle 30’s But I would never even consider playing say, HL2 on the iOS. right? what should I do when headcrabs attack? shake the fucking phone like an idiot just to get it unwhatever…I donno…maybe I’m getting old.

erhm, i think you misunderstood the meaning of this app… you’r not going to be able to play steam games on it, you can chat with steam friends, buy steam games, find out whats on sale etc. etc.

you’ll have to wait years before being able to play games like hl2 on your phone lol

haha allright…so I’ll stick to my original post: what the hell is it good for  joking ofcourse

Got invited into the beta. It’s pretty fucking cool.

Some people have no irl friends to communicate with their phones on. So they needed someone to talk to on their phones, so Valve gave them what they needed.

or you know, they just genuinely want to use steamchat to communicate with other people.
which is an actual thing people do.

In a way not really. Smart phones are progressing VERY quickly and some games like shadowgun far surpass HL2 already. Admittedly they’re made from the ground up, but I think smartphones have the potential, it’s just up to valve to put in the porting work. Sadly controls for 3d games on smartphones suck ass so if they did do the work it probably wouldn’t be too fun.
