Can’t believe I linked the wrong file…
I love the first movie, so I’m excited for this one.
It looks great, but if it weren’t for the title card I’d have no idea that it’s supposed to be a Star Trek movie.
Yeah, this isn’t Star Trek. It just has the name.
I don’t care if it isn’t very loyal to Star Trek, if it’s as good as the previous movie, I’ll be happy with it.
I like the Star Trek universe and franchise but I can’t call myself a fan of it, so it doesn’t affect me much if they deviate a bit from what makes it a loyal Star Trek movie.
Captain Kirk vs Sherlock Holmes
Last movie killed off Spock’s entire civilization.
So yeah, that deviates a bit.
The storyline allowed it to. And don’t fucking act like time travel and alternate universes never happen in Star Trek.
Also, every time I read this movie’s title, all I can think is “Star Trek can into space”
Yeah, even ST fans thought it was a good thing they decided to make the new movies in an alternate universe, so they can work with a blank slate and do their own new stories without having to worry about canon and decades of continuity issues.
Looks… darker.
They’ve said repeatedly about the first movie that everything was meant to be bright and optimistic to reflect Gene Roddenberry’s view on the future (one reason why there are lots of lens flares). This… um. Looks like the opposite of that.
But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. We’ll see how it turns out.
This. :awesome:
Soo… first Dr. Watson becomes a Hobbit, and now Holmes is trying to kill Captain Kirk. I like.[/SIZE]
EDIT:
Extra footage from the Japanese trailer, featuring a familiar Star Trek moment.

The reason I said this ‘isn’t Star Trek’ has nothing to do with story or continuity. It’s turned into just another action sci-fi movie, which was never what ST was about.
Uhhh, bur, have you actually seen the latest ST movies before JJ Abrams’ ST?
They’re nothing more than action movies too.
Been a while. I guess you’re right. Maybe I just never really liked most of the movies compared to the series.
I’d love a new Star Trek series btw. Hopefully one better than Enterprise, and hopefully something new instead of a rehash of something old.
Don’t action-oriented ST movies count as something new, then?
I would watch a brand new ST show. I don’t have the patience to watch through the enormous back catalogue of the previous shows, so a brand new series made in a way that is friendly to brand new viewers and respects the established continuity would be pretty neat.
This is pretty much what Enterprise was, but it wasn’t very well received.
Yeah, haven’t heard many good things about that one. Apparently it was all a holodeck simulation in the end. What a cop-out ending.
