Sound doesn't work

I installed the game today, and it runs absolutely perfect, but I have no sound. I have tried most of the regular fixes for hl2.exe (i.e, -dxlevel properties command) but I still can’t hear anything. Also, I’m playing on a Macbook Pro, Win XP SP3 on Parallels. I can’t be the only one who’s having this problem.

I had the same problem in other games. Turns out I had forgotten to update my DirectX installation after a fresh Windows install. Download “dxwebsetup.exe” from Microsoft and run it:
