Social media campaign starts on Facebook

Sure, it really doesn’t matter if you can’t play it often because of real world stuff (because they didn’t get to work on the MOD as much as they wanted for the same reasons…), but he IS correct in saying that if they want this to be a campaign to get attention before the games release then they really need to step it up. They whole “Get X likes on facebook” pretty much turned to dust after someone made that “we’re gonna dump a lot of these likes and raise the amount needed next time…” post. I’m sure it gave some people the notion that they didn’t have enough content ready for showing or something…

It’s more like, shouldn’t we know better by now than complaining about things not happening the way you expected? Specially when it comes to this mod? Have we learned nothing from the past?

Guys, stop complaining about slow media releases. They just released new media. Relative to how long this mod has been in development, not much time has passed since the last media release. We’ve gone years without major releases like this!

Remember why they stopped releasing media at some point? Because “it was never enough” and people kept complaining. Well here we are again, and people are complaining about not enough releases just after a major and stunning release.

I think we should be happy that the mod is officially close to being released, and we should enjoy the anticipation, instead of complaining and annoying everyone.

Well, humanity doesnt seem to learn from their past. War, war, war, war, war, murder, murder, murder, and so on… :frowning:

Dude, freshman year of college is a joke. You’ll have heaps of time to play games and get good grades. Worry about having no life in your second or third year.

It would make sense to release the game during the NH summer, if one were to plan a release date. The “when it’s done approach” suggests there’s no particular plan for any time of year though.

Depends on the college you go to and the courses you take. I’m expecting UC Berkeley coursework to bend me over ):.

I thought I had worded things carefully enough to make it clear that I wasn’t angry at the devs or trying to get them to change things one way or another. I was, in the first part, commenting on how the distance between updates was frustrating for fans (a simple statement, not a complaint, accusation, or blame), and was wearing down the hype as well as asking, politely I hope, what was happening with the updates right now. In the second part, I was commenting on how I personally probably won’t have the time to be playing Blackmesa and how’s that’s personally frustrating. Once again, not a complaint, accusation, or blame. But if you must continually act superior with your fake “high horse” approach to anything and everything, feel free to continue.

We have no frame of reference here. They have started a media campaign, which implies more than one event, but we (still) don’t have a timeframe on how long till release to make any kind of assumptions about how quick should the media events be between each other. We don’t even know how many events did they plan.

So saying that they’re not doing this fast enough based on your own assumptions is still a form of spoiled complaining.

I said they’re not doing this fast enough for my tastes, and they’re not doing it fast enough to keep up the hype and keep a lot of the fans satisfied. I don’t blame them, I’m not angry at them, and I don’t expect or demand that they go faster. Sure, call it a complaint if you wish, but seeing as I make no accusations or demands or expectations, I really don’t see it as spoiled or even any kind of disrespect. Wait, nvm, I didn’t even say that. Looking at the original post, I said something much more mild. I said that I expected the updates to come faster and was wondering if they had to slow down the updates because they realized they weren’t ready yet. Serves me right for reading your reaction to my post and assuming it wasn’t wildly exaggerated.

Please put me on your ignore list again so that you can go back to feeling superior without making me listen to you try to justify it.

You worry too much about wording, it’s the thought that counts, how you spell it out won’t change how people react. And I think that no matter how long it took to get this far, here we are, all hyped for Black Mesa again.

And if you think it will make you mess up at school or whatever, just put Black Mesa on your ignore list and pretend it’s not out yet.

Is it too late to say that the changes look absolutely fucking beautiful and that I love what you’ve done with the mod and that I want to pay you for your work?

And that being hired by Valve is within the realm of possibilites?

It’s never too late for Balck Meas :retard:

So, how bout that social media campaign eh? I really liked that.

Please justify.

Okay you win. :stuck_out_tongue: I shall return to the shadows and wait patiently…whooosh

We will see a new Black Mesa trailer on Gamescom, beat me to it.

The community really got stirred up and the facebook has somewhat a resemblance of a snowball-principle. I’m sure that after release (and broad press picking it up) the likes will hit something around 80.000.

BTW: 32654 likes and counting

Promise more media again, and the mod will get extra 20k likes in 2-3 days.

Excluding of course the creators of Narbacular Drop and Tag (for the few who may not know, the inspirations for Portal and Portal 2, respectively), two senior projects of students at DigiPen Institute of Technology. I’d hardly consider college seniors to be “industry veterans”. Just saying :stuck_out_tongue:

Valve has had a history of picking up promising community members and landing them jobs. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some offers sent out once blackmesa is released.

Background pictures are expected to be relatively high resolution, which would mean huge files if they were PNGs. PNGs are not compressed much, which is why they are generally used for small, sharp graphics like logos, since those aren’t big but require sharp detail. These graphics can also take advantage of the extra transparency channel that PNGs offer, which would be pointless for a background picture or a photo.

A high-quality JPEG (10-12) is pretty much identical to an uncompressed bitmap, you will never be able to tell the difference. JPEGs can be great quality but they don’t tolerate editing (re-saving and re-compressing) much. A background picture is not meant to be edited by you anyway, so that’s not an issue.

JPEG is clearly intended to be used for larger, photographic stuff, while PNG is clearly meant for smaller graphics.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
