so what type of facility is black mesa anyway?

I look through the screenshots, and what i see is a concrete bunker, not a research facility. rubble all over the place, pallets leaned against the wall, crates everywhere.
but if this is a research facility, shouldn’t hallways be kept clear and the complex cleaned? sure, the resonance cascade damaged the complex somewhat, but the disorganization of everything in the screenshots is positively human caused.
I’m not asking you to change everything, that would be impractical, but can you just explain to me what is going on?

Black Mesa is a research facility built within an abandoned US Missile silo complex, and when it was built, much of the complex was converted for storage and industrial purposes, while other areas were abandoned outright.

The actual research areas are pristine and clean, if you look at the Anomalous Materials screenshots.

There are certain places that are brand new and are squeeky clean. Other areas are considered an old military facility… if I remember correctly. So you will be seeing a drastic difference in the place as you go through the game as you did in the original.

I am sure a real developer will show up and offer a better explanation though.

Black Mesa Research Facility :hmph:

The obvious is hidden with concrete from the eyes of puplic.

I believe the saying goes “to hide something in plain sight”.

I bet it has lots of LOCKED doors.

If youre asking what was researched, I dont think there is any specialty per se.

Why is this in the suggestion box?

except teleportation and stuff

It’s a Private Research Facility that recieves Government Funding and such. It’s built on a decomissioned Cold War Missile Base, hence the bunkers. The reason for all the storage areas is, well, it’s a big place, and it needs somewhere to put all the stuff they aren’t using.

And contrary to popular belief, the Facility is not top secret because it has it’s own marked train cars and that travel into the city. If it was secret, the cars would be unmarked.

It may not be kept secret but it is hidden behind some cliffs to conceal it.

Who knows, employees might board the trams not at public stations but at secret underground platforms.

Like I said, why would you mark a secret train car?

That’s like marking the buses to Area 51 with “Groom Lake Military Installation” complete with the US Air Force insignia.

Well… it must be top secret or the army wouldn’t have tried covering up the whole incident as they wouldn’t be able to explain why theres so much people missing and that known-by-all research facility isn’t operating anymore.

Well, Aperture seems to know an awful lot about them for a SECRET base. I think the HECU come in not to cover up the facility itself as much as to cover up the existence of an alien race, or the horrible mistake that BM made, or the fact that it was government-funded, or some freakin’ thing.

Also, BM does SCIENCE. What more do you want?

It’s like Area 51. The place itself isn’t secret but what they do in it is.

So how the hell was the government going to explain all the missing workers in that place??? cuz the marines kinda… well, they where killing each and every black mesa worker that they found
:fffuuu:

Everybody and there families lived and worked at Black Mesa.

Besides, the Nuclear Blast (if it had worked) would be an easy way to explain how everything vanished. Hell, they could tell everyone that they were developing advanced nuclear technology and had an ‘accident’.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
