You expect me to pay $20.00 for an unfinished remake of a game, which you’ve already released for free, all of which that you released exclusively on a DRM platform?
The good thing about the game already being released for free is… You can still use it. No one is forcing you to touch the paid version. For me, it’s more of a way to support the developers in their quest to release more content. Of course I will buy this version of the game to show my support, seems like a no-brainer for me, but again, no one is forcing anyone to buy it
It’s funny because when the free mod version was originally released, the forums and reviews and comments and such were flooded with people saying “I’d gladly pay for this game!” but when given the option to pay, a non-insignificant number of people are now like “Oh helllllll no”.
Indeed. It’s sad that people are actually dissapointed it is finally on Steam. On that note, here is a press release regarding the improvements made; https://www.blackmesagame.com/bms_presskit.pdf
It’s not like the two are even remotely the same thing. You don’t say ‘We’re going to remake this game because it was so fun,’ then take years to do anything, then release it in an unfinished state, then say ‘Yeah, we’re not done yet, but here’s the game with some missing features we promised, released on a DRM platform, all for $20 dollars.’
If you want a good example of ‘I like this game so much, I’d PAY for it,’ you can either look at a donation button, or Cave Story. That game was released in a finished state, everyone loved it, and the paid version is pretty much the same game with a few graphical updates here and there and a couple of other things.
You realize you have a free option, right? No one is forcing you to do anything. $20 for Early Access, which is already in a very high state of completion. The developers aren’t being malevolent, and pretty much all Source games are on Steam.
I don’t understand your argument. How does not being forced to do something make anything alright?
Everybody’s got choices. I remember at the end of Half-Life you had a choice. Accept the G-Man’s offer and sit in an empty room until HL2, or fight a battle you can’t win. I don’t understand how having a choice has any relevance here.
You know, the devs no longer have the excuse of this being merely a free mod developed in their free time, actual money being thrown their way right now. If these people don’t hurry up with the last 15 percent of the game which was promised 3 years ago and development is still as slow as it was for the past 10 years then they’re no better than any other early access scam artist out there.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
