I find it too bright.

Less sunshaft, more dust motes?

Removed the sunshaft and added more dust motes.

What about now?

Looks better, but imho I’d add a skybox or something else like a parking lot or something.

I wanted the room to seem closed in, as if it’s a prison. If I added a skybox and buildings outside, it would make it feel like it’s big and open rather than small and enclosed.

Made this.
Why in 4k, you might ask? Just 'cause I could.

I don’t know anymore

Grr, I wish I could draw/paint like that.

I close my eyes and rub my genitalia across the tablet until something cool gets made.

Try that.

working on some shit

will probably never finish it

A couple of pics created using SFM

Someshit I made out of boredom.

How do you make the pillars or whatever at the windows arch like that? I’ve never been able to do that.

Brush builder has an arch tool, but damn, those are some smooth arches. Probably had to put in a huge # of sides to the arch to get them that smooth.

32 Sides arch with a thickness of 16, some clipping & lots of copy paste & vertex work to make them look better & to get them on the grid again.

It really is weird just how similar Source mapping is to Quake 1 and 2 engine mapping.

Following that model I made and successfully imported into FF7, I decided to work on some higher res textures for some of the battle environments

I believe Source was also a upgraded version of GoldenSource, and GoldenSource was a heavily modified version of the Quake Engine.I think this also explains why Hammer is similiar to Quake’s editor.

Well it is, but I mean I just find it weird that valve kept so much the same.

Switching to ID’s own later engines even have bigger differences when it comes to making maps

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
