I agree with that take. Hell, I’ve been swearing like a sailor in probably every post I’ve made so far, so it’s not as if I’m rooting for censorship. But if professional appearance is a concern, you probably don’t want four-letter bombs on the home page. In the mod itself, sure. In the forums, great. Fuck man I don’t care if the Marines keep saying “Oh, shit!” when you chuck grenades at them or if they say “Fuck you” or “I just anally violated a fucking farm animal you goddamn grenade whore.” But if appearance counts, then we might need to watch what goes on the home page. Or if we don’t care that’s fine with me fuck I’m downloading this bitch regardless. I love what BM is shaping up to be.

I must admit, while I couldn’t give a fuck about swearing generally, I tend to agree with Dillxn about the front page quote. It feels like it could be a quote on a real game’s packaging, if it was ‘s**t’ or ‘****’ instead.

raw_bean has a good idea there, it could keep the cool quote, and still make it look professional. The back of the second ‘Ratchet and Clank’ game box had a bit of the same thing on it. (US version at least)

Advertisement solution: Firefox + Adblock Plus.

Okay, that’s only a client fix and not server side, but it makes it look better for you :-).

I almost forget that the Web has bright, flashy and obnoxious advertisements - I have Firefox portable on my flashdrive, so I have Adblock Plus, Firegestures, etc. everywhere I go (assuming I take my drive).

Josh, I just have a tiny request. The word “shit,” while not offensive to most on the forums I would guess, might be offensive to some that come across the main page of the mod; especially when it’s presented in huge bold white text as soon as the page loads.
We want the page to look as professional as possible right?

And yes, I know that there are vulgarities in the game, and people who would be playing the game wouldn’t mind that. But it’s still not good looking to the eye.

I’d like my dad to play this mod (he’s a gamer as well) but I’d be ashamed to show him the front page at this point.

No worries if it can’t be changed to something like “s**t,” or something, I just wanted to throw this idea out there.

Oh, Zsub, I wasn’t debating the concept of censorship; I think it’s as silly as you, mate. But that doesn’t change the fact that it doesn’t look as blinding as if it had been censored. Society tells us that uncensored “bad” words are worse than censored ones, so people are shocked at uncensored ones.

I realize the mod wants to come across as edgy and fun, not formal. But still, I return to the “dad” example.

Besides, Hubi could have some fun with the censoring thing. Maybe give the word “shit” a shake-n-blur effect?
