Security guards

What is this “moral” of which you speak? :3

And chew bubble gum.

Shut up. Barney has got nothin’ on the awesomeness that is Duke Nukem.

No, you’re thinking backwards.
Duke Nukem has nothing on Barney, because Barney’s most recently announced game was ACTUALLY FINISHED.
And barney isn’t stupid enough to kick in the screens of arcade machines, because that would probably electrocute him.

That line didn’t originate with Duke Nukem.

BLASPHAMY! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wrong. Barney’s last game was Half-Life Blue Shift. Released in 2001. Duke Nukem’s last game released was Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project. Released in 2002.

So his appearance in HL2+EP1 doesn’t count?

Since there is a thread already labeled ‘Security Gaurds’ then Ill post this idea in here:

I realize I may be speaking blasphemy with this… but hear me out.

There is one thing that had always annoyed me about the HL universe. Barney.
Dont get me wrong, the guy proved to be a bad ass… but honestly… the HL universe should not have 100 Barneys roaming the halls of BS. There was one that first offered a beer after work; the first Barney you encountered (actually encountered, not the one you saw as you were riding on the tram and he was trying to get through the door… that ended up being ‘you’ in BS… though Im not sure how he can be Barney, while at the same time the gaurd at the door being Barney too. Maybe thats answered with BS… I dont remember) standing in front of the door as you got off the tram.

I personally think that should be the only one holding that same face and script. Maybe seeing him once or twice after the cascade (because… as you know from HL2/BS he survives… had to of done that somehow), but all the other security gaurds that hold the same coding and the same face… just seems repetative; pulls away from the realistic avenue that VALVe decided to go with HL:2 (and so on).

I dont know… I realize that goes against what helps create the ambiance in HL… but its always been one of those things that just slightly annoyed me. I mean… there are enough skins to work with using the Source code to make different looking security gaurds right? Except for the true Barney…

Feel free to rail me with protests.

We call them “Barney’s” because they were Barney’s, but in BM there will only be ONE ‘Barney’ , and every security guard will have a different face. Though I believe they will all have a similar voice, because no one wants to get 100 different voice actors :stuck_out_tongue:

Good

Then this should be a truly decent conversion. I am more excited then before

:jizz:

Those were Gordons games. Not Barneys.

Yeah but vavle didn’t make the only “barney” game then.

Then, that puts Duke Nukem at even more of an advantage.

But all of those guys were either off duty or dead.
You’ll see Calhoun without his vest and helmet, but that’s probably all.

ITS TIME TO STEAL ONE LINERS AND STEAL ONE LINERS AND I STOLE ALL THE ONE LINERS

Why would we see calhoun without vest and helmet? He has only two appearances in this game, and he’s wearing his vest and helmet in both of them.

He probably remembered that in Blue Shift, Calhoun got his vest only after entering the door where he was seen by Gordon, knocking on it in Half-Life 1. So, if the developers would take this into consideration as canon, they probably would let him stand there knocking on the door with his uniform (blue pants and shirt) but not with his vest and helmet. In the FAQ they say that this appearance at the beginning of the game will be the only one of Barney Calhoun in Black Mesa. Might as well make it special, but you never know - they have certainly more important things to think about than the outfit of Barney Calhoun.

Maybe the “vest and helmet” thing would be worth a small suggestion in the matching thread. But I wouldn`t mind if it got turned down. Magnusson will also not be the one with the microwave casserole, so we can assume that the developers will not be taking all the Half Life games into consideration and rather make a stand alone product. It’s already icing on the cake that they are trying to make the Guard at the beginning of the train ride look like a younger Barney, and that Kleiner and Vance are gonna have an appearance.

Yeah they are not considering blue shift cannon. One reason might be that if it was cannon, you would have seen barney without vest and helmet knocking on the door in the original HL. Also Op4 is not considered cannon because then you should be able to turn around and see shepard open the door right before you run and jump in the portal to Xen.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
