I think he was referring to how one or two of the security stations you come across have said weaponry. Mind you, I personally don’t specifically remember seeing anything except shotguns, shells & 9mm clips in them, but it’s been a while since my last play-through.
Still, I suppose MP5’s in a secure armoury for emergencies doesn’t seam too far fetched, after all they are guarding in a secret government funded facility.
I don’t know why you even try.
I own a shotgun with capabilities mirroring that of the Spas-12. Any unprotected living thing you point it at will be severely injured, I know that for a fact. 50 yards is the maximum EFFECTIVE range, but when you consider the halls and corridors of Black Mesa, you wouldn’t need anything greater than that. The reason it’s called a maximum effective range is because the shot spreads, causing it to be inaccurate. It is still moving fast enough to pierce skin. You try throwing rocks at me from fifty whilst i’m chucking 20-30 lead shot at your face, and we’ll see what happens.
You’re also not factoring in the type of shells they would be using, nor the choke on the shotgun. I would imagine security, using semi-automatic/pump shotguns in the first place (which are displayed in the security offices you come across) would use magnum 00 buckshot, like most security, military, and police forces. Which reaches even greater velocities and would most likely still kill you at any conceivable range you would encounter in the Black Mesa Research Facility.
And as far as the Mp5 is concerned, it requires far more training to use effectively than a shotgun does, and especially the Spas-12; it was designed for ease of use and is very customizable. The stock you see folded most of the time at the top? When it folds out it goes underneath your forearm, and is for firing the weapon one-handed whilst behind cover. The rate of fire of a semi-automatic shotgun, or even a pump shotgun is not nearly as slow as you think it is - consider the fact that the shells you are firing can punch a grapefruit sized hole in a human being.
You’re sacrificing ease of use, stopping power, and general reliability for a weapon that requires far more time, effort, and money for the Black Mesa security force to use.
So yes, it makes logical sense for them to have shotguns, I don’t know what the fuck you’re babbling on about.
From a gameplay standpoint, the gun is the second one you acquire after the crowbar and the Glock. The Mp5 seems to be a step up from the shotgun in-game, as you get it afterwards (Though I personally preferred the weapon throughout the whole game.)
The security guards should not be too powerful; they’re supposed to be, while useful, still somewhat hapless against the aliens and the HECU. Thusly I wouldn’t want to arm them with anything much above a Shotgun or Glock. It doesn’t make sense for them to use anything else, to be perfectly honest.
Well then have an MP5 with Grenade Launcher in the Hazard Course. So if they are training you to use that particular weapon, it isn’t far fetched to assume they have MP5s.
Oh yeah, those grenades. But Freeman doesn’t get those ones in Freemans Mind. And they’re hidden, so not many people will even know that they’re there.
The facility is a series of fucking concrete corridors spanning 20-30 feet. I don’t think range is an issue.
I would certainly think that Javid knows a whole lot more about weapons than you do.
fix’d
I think you’re taking it a bit too literally.
When I said I didn’t know what you were babbling about I thought you were saying the security guards were carrying shotguns and MP5’s. After rereading your post I realize this is not what you were saying, I apologize for that. Also, I admit I did over exaggerate the amount the velocity decreases after it’s maximum effective range. However it’s stopping power is significantly reduced at that range and even though it can still pierce flesh it is not as devastating or even (at times) lethal. It is true that in a building like the Black Mesa Research Facility a shotguns maximum range is never a problem; but, that doesn’t negate the fact that the Spas-12 only has 8 rounds before you have to reload it round by round. The MP5 has 50 rounds(30 in real life but hey it’s a game) before you have to reload, it is also quicker to reload because it is magazine fed. You must admit that the shotguns long loading time can leave you quite vulnerable in a situation where tenths of a second are the difference between life and death. Also I’ve never used an MP5 but I’m very certain I could pick one up and be fairly proficient with one in only a few hours. It really doesn’t require much to learn how to use a firearm. This whole conversation of them starting off with something other than shotguns is actually a moot point since the devs have stated that the security guards will all start off with their glocks only.
I didn’t know concrete could do that.
I see; I agree with you.
And I would NOT want to fuck concrete.
The guards don’t need particulary dangerous guns as they just call in the military if specimens escape.
Why not fuck concrete, it could dry on you and leave you with a permanant hard-on.
hurr hurr hurr, geddit?
topic: I want the BM security guards to have Paul Blart faces and proportionate body mass, because these clowns are really just rent-a-cops, and you all know it.
Except that rent-a-cops don’t even get pepper-spray and these guys have Glock 19s.
Except that real security guards can kill things.
Something must be wrong with your game, but in mine, the Security Guards are able to easily kill Headcrabs, Zombies, Vortigaunts, Houndeye, etc. Like I said, I’ve seen a guard take on a grunt once.
I just wanted to know if they automatically join you or you have to press E every single time.
They are quite adept at taking out grunts at range due to the ludicrous accuracy of their pistols compared to the wild spray of the grunt’s MP5s.
Yeah, but this was like, 20 feet away from each other. Both full health, 1 on 1. Maybe it was a rare 1 off event. But he won.
What were you playing on, easy? I only play on hard, but even when I played on normal (last playthrough, wanted it to be faster) they still get killed by bullsquids and shit.
I play on Hard mode.
…can’t say I myself have seen a Barney be killed by shit…
You probably haven’t played the game, then.
