Security Guard After Resonance Cascade Not Getting Revived by CPR

Am I the only person that stuck around after the resonance cascade in HL1 to see the security guard get revived with CPR? As soon as you walk out of the test chamber, the scientist performing CPR on the guard successfully revives him in Half-Life, but it never happens in Black Mesa.

I was kind of disappointed to see this omitted in BMS.

I don’t recall that even happening unless you go all the way to get the crowbar, and considering there were level changes in between it was likely a bug.

CPR doesn’t always work and Black Mesa isn’t Half-Life. Gonna have to deal with it.

In half-life it happens every time at the start (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHtsAyfMIoY). You don’t have to go and get the crowbar. It happens as soon as you walk out of the test chamber.

What does real life CPR have to do with a nod to the game this mod is based off?

I’m just commenting on the fact that I was sad it wasn’t included in Black Mesa. I was wondering if anyone was even aware that it happened in Half-Life.

Well then maybe it was simply not worth their time I don’t see how it’s a nod as this had no significant relevance.

You kind of pick up on it after multiple playthroughs of the original, but it’s rather insignificant, and it’s not like the guard in the original could actually go more then 5 feet with you anyway.

You can simulate it by throwing objects at the scientist until he explodes, then the security guard pops up and will follow you.

Why is there a core group of supporters that defends absolutely everything ever about the mod to the death? It seems kind of freaky to me.

Because this is a trivial issue that has absolutely no affect over anything other than “This was in the original, it should be in Black Mesa.”

Black Mesa’s broken from Half-Life plenty of times. I don’t see why waiting around resulting in a useless guard sitting up is at all worth being disappointed over.

Why is there a bunch of people that must be disappointed at how this isn’t a carbon copy of Half-Life?

I thought one of Half-Life’s main draws was its attention to little details that many people wouldn’t notice?

You’ve got a point with that, but this detail in particular is hardly anything to be disappointed at.

Original: Guard lives. Serves no other earthly function.
Black Mesa: Guard dies. Otherwise same outcome as original.

It would require more voice files, choreography and scripting for a detail with next to no effect on anything at all other than the aforementioned “It was in the original” factor.

It happened to me

I have another complaint: I feel like this scientist should talk to gordon, as soon as he sees him returning from the testchamber.
At least they are the first persons who see each other after the catastrophe. But he doesn’t react at gordons presence at all which is not realistic. He could talk to gordon while doing cpr, asking him what the hell happened, or something like that or asking him to bring help…

I agree with you, Jone4s
It seems a bit strange that this scientist doesn’t care about Gordon walking out alive right after the incident. Yes, he is occupied with saving the life of his friend, but it’s not possible that he was that much occupied, especially in the situation like that.

I remember that in original, the scientist never cared also, but I think that this is one of those moments when it’s better to change something to make it have more sense

That scientist was performing improper CPR anyway. There’s no way the guard could have survived that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just heart massage, not even mouth on mouth

The chest compressions are being done improperly and at an improper rhythm. And he’s not giving ventilations to the victim.

It’s possible that he’s been going at it for a few hours and that he’s just tired.

It’s a bit weird though how Gordon doesn’t care at all about them

Aha, too bad, uh, gotta run, fellows, hope you won’t die in near future… Oh and I’ll take this medkit, though it’s obvious that your friend needs it more than I do. Peace!” ^^

The first time, I stood around to see if was gonna make it but then after a minute I understood nothing will happen and moved on, a lil bit disappointed.

From what I learned about CPR, it wasn’t something you could do and hold a coversation with. “Oh hey there Gordon. Nasty shitstorm we got ourselves into…BREATHE MAN! Oh sorry bout that ol’ chum. Lawrence here had a nasty spot of bad luck after that whole kablooie thing goin on in there. Carry on whilst I keep trying to…Lawrence?? LAWRENCE!? OH GOD MAN! BREATHE YOU BASTARD BREEEEEAAAAAAATHE!” Sobs and you slowly back away

You are right…
But he could at least acknowledge Gordon’s presence somehow, maybe just look at him or nod head or something like that

… I don’t think anyone would be even remotely in their right mind in the seconds directly following an event like that. The scientist just saw a bunch of people die in front of him, and he’s now performing CPR on someone. He’s probably in a daze and not thinking clearly at all.

Think about the situation they’re in… Those first fer moments would be glazed over. I don’t think I would talk to anyone for quite a while if I survived something like that.
