Secret area

Hi all!

I’m a bit excited, because a quick search didn’t turn up anything, so I might be among the first to have found this. (I didn’t decompile the maps.) I don’t want to spoil much of it, so I will only say that finding it involves a button.

It’s in Surface Tension. Here is a screenshot as proof, I tried to make it not very spoiler-y.

No purple hat, but there is a reference to it though.

Did anyone else find this? Did this exist in the 2012 version? Did you find secret areas in other places?

I think that did exist in the 2012 version, I wonder if anything changed. Did you get a Steam achievement?

Oh. :frowning: No achievement.

That’s too bad. I’ve wondered if the now one-of-a-kind purple hat will activate anything anywhere. Kind of like the plugs and scattered car batteries in Half-Life 2. That would be super cool.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that area, and that image, have been known to the community since about a week after the mod release back in 2012. Heck, Chris Horn, the guy who made it, actually references it in the Black Mesa Release Stream, as well as providing its location. Its related to the Pizza Code Mystery ARG.

Damn… Well, I found something else, I really doubt anyone has found it before.

You have to find this wall, and use it:

It opens to a secret corridor:

It leads to the courtyard area, thus far thought to be unaccessible:

Has this been discovered before?? Does anyone know??

By the way, here is a picture of me:

Actually, the easier way to get that secret is to press a button near the armor where those shotgun zombies are :stuck_out_tongue:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
