screen shake

In all fairness to the 1.6 whiners…screen shake is a pretty nice, subtle little feature.

Glad to hear it’s already in the mod.

When is CS:GO due for release anyways?

Banhammer in 3…2…nah, just kiddin’

Yeah. If they wanted that, they’d play Stides’ remake.

Even Quake 2 had screen shake when you used the machine gun.

I don’t know about you gentlemen, but I am pretty effing encouraged by the fact that Ram “can’t wait to see…”

HE CAN"T WAIT TO SEE!!!

I think I jizzed a little :jizz:

^ Proof of imminent release.

I guess there are two schools of thought when it comes to the whole ‘screen-shake’ issue. One says “Do it! it’s closer than I’ll ever be to a real-world environment in which I hurry someplace to do something!”. The other side of the coin mandates “I want my willing suspension of disbelief, but I’m the Avatar, therefore physics apply to everything and everyone BUT me.” When it comes to weapons, their operation under stress, and that perception as a visual experience, it works. Kind of. But I’m the hero in this movie; I call the shots, and I would include a radio button that anticipates recoil mitigation. Proper sight alignment. And an acceptance of the fact that a ‘Hazard Suit’ doesn’t just detect radiation.

Timeframe =/= date

And that’s my last word on that.

For me the appeal of screen shakes has nothing to do with realism. Gun shots just feel more satisfying when they kick the view around. Same goes for damage feedback. Just take Quake for an example, walk up to an explosive box and shoot it, the screen will go very red and your view gets a mean punch downwards (as far as I can see) for a moment. That explosion would not seem nearly as mean if all you got was Quakeguy doing his pain grunt but the view was completely unaffected.

But does it ruin it for you if the view recenters after the punch without you having to manually do it yourself?

I hate the way the recoil works in Counter-Strike, because I find constantly moving the camera annoying, it’s too easy to counter with scripts & is stupid how it just quits when looking straight up. I’m fine with the recoil in Half-Life (except for HL:S’ MP5 & HL2’s AR2) because the camera stays pointing in the same location.

The “two schools of thought” 6Sigma mentioned are really “I’m in the head of the person holding the gun, he aims where I look, I don’t look where he aims” vs “I might as well be a camera taped to an almost disembodied gun”.

I greatly prefer when the view “auto-centers” without me having to manually look back where I did before.

Funny thing, I hate when it does that. It’s the worst thing about GTAIV in my opinion.

Sometimes camera view in GTA IV is totally fucked up anyway.
