Screen effects

srsly

Well its a game. I think it’s unimportant if gordon has glasses or eylenses or whatever.

I dont what to simulate realism with screen effects like water or somthing else… Years ago HL got me with his unbelievable atmosphere, grafics on my RivaTNT  … Now over 10 Years later, there is the source engine. I saw screen effects in HL like the nuke explosion when you trapped into a tripmine in surface tension. Or like the flashing behind this room full of tripmines after an airstrike. There was not more room for detailed effects like they exist today.
The water drips where only an suggestion. Still thinking about the teleport sequence in HL2. There where Lighning effects and much more. Im not speaking about to see this in Bm but it will maybe improve the atmosphere when its well used.

Sometimes you get poisoned by chemicals … would be nice to see how the point of view get zoomed in a litte (really not much so that it dont destroy the gameplay | or somthing else like an discreet green in the corners of the screen) then the HEV goes on and told you that you got an antidote. After that, it goes back to normal. This took 4 seconds at all and is just an example of what i mean. Little moments which show you: yeah this is HL in source, when the level design already hasn’t satisfyed yourself

I’m still waiting for someone out there to do HDR with a retina texture so you properly get the “dots before your eyes” afterimage stuff after looking at a bright light like the sun…
It shouldn’t be all that hard either, just replace the tonemap multiplier with a texture lookup, and apply a gradual fade down plus the clip from the tonemap process to it. I’d even go so far as to make the up more sensitive towards the middle of the screen.
That way, someone shining a light in your eyes would properly kill off night-vision too…

None of the chemicals in Half Life 1 were poisonous, not even the barrels marked with the biohazard symbol. They were radioactive however.

The closest thing to a toxin in the Half Life series has been the poison headcrab bites, and they didn’t affect vision. Doing this in Black Mesa will break continuity.

Ok its not a poison but i tested it on the toxic waste in “Residue Processing” … you see an radiotion warning symbol to the left and the hev said to me “Warnung: Blutgifte diagnostiziert”. Maybe wrong but directly translated to english: “Warning: Blood gas detected” … and the screen shakes every 2 seconds and you loose HEv suit power.

It was just an suggestion to make this today boring sequence to somthing where you could say: Ok thats a source game.

I translated that with babelfish and I think it’s actually meant to say “Warning, blood toxins detected”, which could mean biohazards or radiation.

On the contrary, lost coast had some amazing lighting effects that BM would stand to benefit from.

P.S. If BM looked anything like crysis, it would ruin the game.

BM is using HDR from Lost coast, it’s an essential source feature nowadays.

Probably, since crysis looks like a boring cutout FPS with only prefab buildings and a landscape.

yeah, i realize that. if i’m not mistaken, that was one of the reasons for the first engine upgrade.

Sorry for misreading, then.

np, mate.

I’m sorry to tell you, but you are stupid.

Where there HiRes textures in the original? Advanced physics? A particle system? BUMP MAPS?! MOTION BLUR?!

I heard it’s going to be in top-down 2D and released on the DS.

I heard that DOS was making a comeback just for BM

It’s not going to be side scrolling anymore? Well, I guess it’s time for me to make a ‘‘I quit this forum’’ thread.

Who the fuck are you, anyway?

Just because using the word “cognizant” in a sentence makes your e-penis nice and hard doesn’t make you a badass.

The excuse “If it was in Half-Life it’ll be in Black Mesa.” is bullshit. Saying that is basically saying that tiny maps, shitty graphics, and death animations are all going to be in Black Mesa.

And perhaps he meant “consistent” rather than “cognizant”?

And I must say I’m looking forward to Black Mesa: Railshooter.

Then it is a must play for me.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
