Scientists in Office Complex

One thing that I thought was weird about the game was how there were people in lab coats working in the Office Complex. After all, you would have accountants and people who work with money in the office complex, not scientists…
So, because I have no artistic talent, nor any idea how to do this, I call to the community to create a skin for the “scientist” model exclusively in the office complex to look more office-like, as in having a blue collared shirt with a tie. I actually have no idea whether this is possible, but could you guys try? This bugged me quite a bit in Half Life, and I was hoping it would have been addressed, but I guess not. Yeah… If you can, that’s excellent, if you can’t, well… Lets just focus on this, okay?
PS: I know this may seem petty, but small things like these can impact the immersion of the game. Still an Awesome Awesome game though… I certainly won’t deny that.

How does it actually bug you?I mean its not like it annoys the gameplay…
But back to the topic - I’ve once saw a screenshot of the office complex with a dead accountant.I think it got scrapped to stick to HL1?

EDIT:Here it is

And some information from the Wiki
"Before was intented to the player stumble upon corpses of office workers in addition to the average batch of scientists and security guards [1]. The office workers were cut and replaced by regular scientists in the final release. "

That’s exactly what I have been looking for… That sort of white shirt with tie. Why would they ever cut this? It’s a small enough deviation from Half Life to not piss fans off, but at the same time a nice enough touch to be worth the effort.
Anyways… Realism certainly plays into immersion. I always imagined the office complex to be an office area, along with office workers… Scientists always seemed out of place…
Actually, do you have any sort of expertise in this? In skinning? Or do you know anyone… I may ask the person who did the HECU Splitter camo to help…

I’m a modeller but I don’t got time at the moment.
Though it would be stupid to do anyway, I mean the scene where the the 2 scientists get eaten would be not right.

I guess they are just office people with a white coat, that’s all…

Cause they all wear ties and such!

Give us these office worker corpses back!

also: there should be storage workers corpses… maybe in blue overalls or so… i mean, there are HUGE storage areas and stuff in black mesa… but no sign of any storage workers… at least 4 or 5 such corpses throughout the whole game would do it for me…

why not have a model for every kind of person that works at a research facility

good luck with that

The difference here is that the environment would not be suitable for scientists… And considering that it has been made clear that scientists are commonly given more lowly jobs in the facility as well, I feel your point doesn’t really stand… Look, I’m just asking if anyone was willing to do this… That’s it. I feel that just putting a few corpses would do.

Well you could request it at gamebanana, there is more chance there that someone will make it.

I was referring to jone4s mostly.

I found that the easiest way to get the office worker model would be to hex a skin on the security guards and then make sure those hexed guys don’t wear any armor. Where this goes beyond me is that I would have to edit the map in Hammer and hope the recompile process doesn’t mess anything up.

Late bump but if you use the Joint Ops V2 pack, and put the Businessmen Scientist into the folder containing the alternate Scientist Skins. It affects roughly 10% of the Scientists, so it won’t be overdone. It’s a nice touch to have.

Thank you for the link. Will try it soonest.

^as soon as I can*

Err, what is the path to the alternate scientists? I seem to have turned them all black.

What path you mean?
The path to the models, or skins?

The ratio seems to be backwards. They are not all black suited, only almost all of them including Eli.

Wow, thank you! That is pretty awesome! Will try it out.

Sorry, I should have made clearer instructions. The ones you are meant to replace can be found in “materials\models\humans\sciencenm2”. If you haven’t made backups, then I can host the files you need.

Black skins, good times…
