Well, section is Show Off so I went “why the hell not”. I’m basically helping build a summer cottage. We’re building it from the ground up by ourselves, only getting the roof truss ready made. We’re gonna install that ourselves too though. We even make most of the wood ourselves, we own a saw mill. Prolly gonna buy planks for the finishing touches though, hard to make even quality wood yourself. Have some pics!
Which part did you build?
That’s awesome from what I can tell!
What are you gonna have inside of it?
Everything.
Haha, no. I’ve been there for all of the construction so far. Not building it by myself.
It’s a summer cottage. A fridge, a bed, some chairs, a table etc.
A comment on the fourth pic from up. We had to build the porch rather early, for in the front of the thing is a rather steep hill. It’d be impossible to get the roof on without a flat surface at the top.
Is there any cool geographical things by it? Like a beach or a mountain or something? Or is it in the middle of the woods like the pictures seem to show?
It reminds me, I’ve build a garage for the house with my father. Completely from scratch. I have some pics from the total beginning and from now, almost completed, but not from in-between.
Dimensions? It looks… small and humble.
We don’t have any mountains in Finland. There’s a lake just by it, you can see it in the second and third images.
Cool beans, pics nao!
Yeah, it’s rather small. Not meant as a full time living quorters, you know. Outer measures were 6x6.5 meters I think. Two floors though, that adds up to the space.
Updating, sorry for the doublepost.
We added some more porch to the side of the building. Also, installed the roof truffs last week. For that we needed a crane, and didn’t need to search around much until we found what we needed. There are some good things about living in a small town.
The crane is installed to the back of an old military truck. Great thing: it has a winch. Makes putting the truffs in place a whole lot easier. Only took an hour. After that, we got to work on the roof, that was nice. Had a couple close by’s, but after the mat and some planks were in place, you wouldn’t think of the height.
The illusion of safety…
Oh and also, the electricity is up and running now. Here are some pictures.
PS. Imonfire, you forget to post them pictures of your own building project?
Wow, swift progress sam! It’s larger here than it looks in the first pics, does the decking have a good view?
.
Yeah, when the truffs went on it started looking like something. I was gobsmacked how fast the profile changed so much.
Currently, the view isn’t much, but that isn’t much of a problem to fix. A day with a chainsaw, axe and billhook and it’s a whole new landscape. It’d take some time to clean also, but that’s another story.
It’s a shame striders are going to the sawmill. :fffuuu:
:fffuuu:
I can’t find them D= .
But I will post pictures of what it looks now soon.
Well, this is seemingly the last update. School is starting soon, I won’t be working on the cottage anymore. Might pop in at the site at some points, just to see how it’s going.
The roof goes above the front of the porch, as you can see, and the room area above the porch is going to be a balcony. A small one, but nevertheless. So the truff doesn’t come down crashing, there are two pillars holding the structure up. Being captain obvious here, but hey, it’d be confusing if I didn’t tell the info. And as you can see from the picture below, there’s some wall already there. That was put there already, since it’s gonna be fucking hard to do anything to the balcony front now since the truff is in place.
Things I’ll miss: building the frame and the roof. Things I won’t miss: casting the base and the floor.
It’s been fun.
