Reality mod

A lot of the goldsrc exploits and glitches were fixed in the Source engine and as far as I know there is no b-hop in Black Mesa.

As for the supermap, it seems to me you’re not very knowledgeable of the limits of the Source engine or how it works in general. They could generate one, maybe, but then you’d be playing a slideshow that crashes all the time.

Did you saw HL2 speed run (it took 1h : 37 min)? With using a plank to literally fly. Is it possible to remove all of these new exploits too?

No! It’s not for playing, just to render in a few very-HQ pictures from different angles and maybe a 3D-view with simplified lights and textures. Only to admire it, roll around and zoom in and out.

Like this one — https://theintrepid.blogspot.com/2010/06/birds-eye-view-of-half-lifes-black-mesa.html . But more exact and useful for navigation.

They could remove those but then people would fine new ones. You can’t account for that. People will always find a way to break games to their advantage. Besides, why is it that big of a deal? No one’s forcing anyone to beat the game using exploits. Exploits are only bad in multiplayer games, in a single player game, unless it’s something gamebreaking and unavoidable, I couldn’t give less of a damn.

But map design flaws and NPC mistakes are most stupid. Like the trick to get alien to open the door for you, or a scientist that allows you to skip a whole chapter if you «use» him. Are all of these fixed?

I don’t know but what if they aren’t? I mean, the average player will beat the game in the right way and never even be aware of those exploits. Sometimes you have to actively look for them since they’re not apparent in the first place.

Does it really bother you that much when people use those things to beat the game faster? Hell, I’d say it’s a fun way to beat the game on a second playthrough or something. Like using the weapons cheat and just go crazy killing scientists with the rocket launcher in the first level.

These exist in goldsrc engine, not in source. There was nothing to fix because we’re talking about different engines.

Yeah, the old HL1 glitches might not be in BM anymore but I bet it will have new exploits of its own. You just can’t avoid it.

You mean even infinite health door (with damage set to -1)? That’s clearly a human level design error.

No if they use something that shouldn’t be there. It’s OK to kill 5 aliens in 0,3 seconds after a week of training. But kind of cheating to fly over them on a wodden plank.

It’ll be cool to see, what will be used for BM speed run. Would it be possible in an hour or so?

Bugs are part of a game, especially a human designed one.
Bugs can be the most annoying or the most entertaining part of a game, or even both, even depending on the player.
You’re a player who doesn’t like to “cheat” over the game, fine. Keep it for yourself and there is no problem at all.
And by “keep it for yourself” I just mean, “don’t try to change other’s mind, and don’t make too much of a big deal on it since your opinion, already stated at least one million times over the whole Internet game-playing community, is widely known to be an opinion that is shared on a specified part of players, depending on a precise preference of gameplay, which can not be shared any further between different kind of players.”

The doors work differently in source.

Yes.

I like realism but i don’t feel like reading all that. It took you 2 posts to show your idea… a summarized version would be nice. I cant really make a judgement because i did not read it.

I don’t think the point was to have it apply to THIS mod, but to make a different one. Still would be unplayable. Having to manage all of that would be too tough of a task for your average gamer. It would be kinda cool, but only as a temporary gimmick.

Metal Gear Solid 3 implemented these ideas rather effectively. Not enough to make it super realistic but enough to where it made the gameplay more involving and interesting.

You’re free to make all these changes when BM is released, but most of these suggestions are just plain ridiculous and go against everything that made HL great. You can suggest and fantasize about your ultra-realism all you like, but at this late stage in development it’s really quite pointless.

Not to be rude but, do you know anything about game design?

It sounds like you should be looking for the people who are working on virtual reality

rooms to train soldiers for the field, rather then a small mod team that has already pumped so much effort into their work.

May as well redesign the entire Black Mesa Research Facility.

I remember a user a while back who worked HVAC in buildings, and made an interesting post about how ridiculous and impossibly unrealistic the ventilation and air conditioning system in Black Mesa was. None of the vents that you crawl through would serve any purpose whatsoever, and apparently the way it’s designed, BMRF cannot possibly be “maintained at a pleasant 68 degrees at all times”.

However, the major difference between OP and the guy I’m mentioning is that the guy didn’t give a crap about the unrealistic parts as long as it was fun.

What other kind of games are there?

Don’t forget to make all crates and vents indestructible and you have to use a crowbar to pry it open

Holy fucking shit I’m not gonna read any of that.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
