Questionable Ethics...

I always loved how in Questionable Ethics it became apparent to the player that the scientists had already encountered these Xen aliens before. There are multiple rooms were alien grunts and headcrabs are kept for further study. This was then further established in Opposing Force, the Biodome Complex for example.

There were also some seemingly pointless cases in HL1 that didn’t seem too scientific, like the cage filled with half a dozen headcrabs that were then electrocuted with no apparent furthering of how these things live.

But I would love to see some more of this in BMS. Like glass cylinders where dead vortigaunts are suspended in liquid, or a small observation room built into the wall where you can see a (living) houndeye. And also some dissection tables with dissected headcrabs and maybe some headcrabbed HEV scientists since there must certainly have been some cases of the science team sent to Xen being headcrabbed.

So what do you think, any chance to see some of these ideas accepted?

This thread has already come and gone, the devs aren’t really changing anything.

Well they said they’d stick as close as possible to HL1 (which I agree with), but they’re also expanding some of the areas a wee bit and I don’t think that my suggestion calls for a radical departure of how it was in the original game.

Strange, because I seem to recall that Questionable Ethics was one of the chapters that had undergone the most redesigns of the entire game. I also vaguely recall that the surgery/autopsy lab in Decay was viewed positively by the developers and that they were at least considering that sort of theme, if not already implementing it.

I quite like this Idea, I would very much like to see this implemented in some way.

why were there headcrabs on earth before the incident. I dont understand that, could someone explain.

Scientists were traveling to Xen before the Resonance Cascade and were experimenting on them.

oh…ok. The original idea of this thread is a good one. They would be researching the creatures with dissection etc. it makes sense.

When you get to Xen, you can see several corpses of scientists in HEV suits lying around, and in OpFor/BS/Decay this is further established when you see human-built technology on Xen. This is how they got hold of the Xen crystal that Gordon pushes into the beam in the first place.

And, that’s also why you see many Xen aliens in the BMRF labs.

And why they had an entire, gigantic, functional teleport strait to Xen in the most restricted part of the facility.

So basically, yes. there’s a good chance your wish may come true, Grievous.
you may now rejoice.

/thread.

you have good ideas !but i would like to see a vortigount(spelling?)being cut in halfes with a laser,007 style.

Do we know who’s doing the Questionable Ethics chapter?

That was very obviously the fail-safe system for terminating all organisms in the testing area in case of an outbreak.

It’s not determined if we’ll see the sorts of things that you’re requesting, we may do… but it wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t. Whilst Black Mesa was obviously studying Xen species, there is no evidence to suggest any dissections had been performed even if it does make sense that there would have been.

G-man provides the non-standard specimen.

Yes the G-Man provides that particular sample, but there are other Xen crystals found throughout the games that were collected by scientists in HEV suits, not to mention the various drilling equipment found on Xen as seen in the expansion packs. At any rate those scientists were definitely collecting Xen wildlife.

V-o-r-t-i-g-a-u-n-t, what you wrote would sound like “count” at the end.

maybe i wanted it to sound like that ?Huh?what cha gonna do know?you gonna cry?

ehm…thx for the right spelling

In Op4 there was even more studying going on :stuck_out_tongue:

Hopefully we’ll see more of this in Questionable Ethics.

needz moar coffe cups,no srsly every lab needs over 9000 coffe cups to keep the scis awake lol
(i know this is shit)

Decay didn’t take place in Xen.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
