It’s more just hair in his face, he never bothers to move it so he can actually see in front of himself. He doesn’t call himself emo or whine about anything, he just blinds himself with his overgrown hair.

But to answer your question, emo faggotery is one of those popular fashion styles these days. Everybody does it, and those that don’t do it, want to do it. So, your kid just wants to be part of the masses so he doesn’t become an outcast.
On the other hand, if you start going emo-style, the sane part of the earthly population will mock you. So it’s a bit of a tough choice.
