Yay vertical monitor club! 
What does a vertical monitor orientation provide that a horizontal doesn’t? Just curious; I’ve seen some people use vertical monitors and I’m not sure why.
I’d need a bigger desk to have mine horizontal. In terms of desktop space usage it’s the shit for reading comics off the web, apart from that not much else I’ve come across so far.
For me it’s awesome for web development. I can load the whole site without scrolling. Also very handy for log viewers. (just about anything that normally requires a vertical scroll bar)
Also it is mounted on a swivel so on the off chance I need the horizontal space I can rotate it.
What everyone else said-- webpages and document creation. A vertical monitor feels nice and cozy, like looking at a piece of A4 paper but with a control panel at each end. I recommend trying Wikipedia with your screen rotated. Tilt your head to see what it’s like.

Working in an office that mostly deals with 8.5x11 paper, A4 sticks out like a sore thumb.
Personally I’m more of a fan of ANSI E paper. But yes even this forum looks nice on my second screen. Vertical orientation is much better suited for reading than widescreen ever was. Plus it’s a dream when working in long excel documents (that should truly be in an access database but my work is too derp to change).
EDIT: also being able to view a whole page of reddit without scrolling is kinda awesome.
