i’ve been debating over whether or not i should pre-order Portal through the company i work for. i can get it for $25 off with my discount but ONLY if i grab the PS3 version. i want to play it on PC with mouse and keyboard though. i read that the PS3 copy of the game includes a Steam voucher for a “PC copy of Portal2”, but i’m wondering what game options it covers. Does the bonus PC copy include the single-player campaign or is it just a multiplayer copy for playing cross-platform?
Do i get Portal2 for $35 and hope to God i get the FULL experience on PC as well?
…or do i just cough up full price for the PC version and get no PS3 multiplayer?
i can’t find any sources on exactly what the “PC bonus copy” entails and the description provided to me by my company’s website still claim the game’s being “released in February”. So obviously there’s no mention of a “PC bonus copy” in there or even an update to the unofficial box art they tossed up there. All of my Google searches on this topic all lead me to the same speculative news story about how Portal2 PS3 might come with a free PC copy or some other bonus material.

I didn’t bother to read the posts through but they might help you.
edit:
That’s what I get for not reading Harun’s post.
That’s moreorless the same info i keep seeing. That statement doesn’t clearly state that the PS3 version comes with a voucher for the full PC game, just Steamplay features and cross-platform play. No online stores are posting updated details or updated boxart to reflect any bonuses for PS3 purchasers. it’s not being widely advertised so i’m still up in the air over which version i should bother buying.
i’ll probably just go for PC to be safe though. My roomate’s almost guaranteed to buy Portal2 soon after release too so i won’t miss out too much on multiplayer; which i’m SURE will be necessary to get the full Portal2 story.

Pre-loaded, like a baws!
Easy as it is: If you buy the PS3 Version, you get a free PC version too. A full version. You can play Coop and SP with it. The only thing you can’t do is, playing with your PS3 Steamaccount coop with your PC version, cause you can’t be online twice at the same time.
what if u play in offline mod , with lan connection?
Couldn’t work.
There will be no LAN anyway.
I wonder (and this is nothing but purely academical curiosity ofc) does this mean that people are already cracking it as we speak? Or is it encrypted?
I think some try, to play it already.
The pre-load lacks the necessary files to run the game. Those will only be downloaded on release day.
Besides, GCF hasn’t truly been cracked. People have made claims, though.
You could look at cracked Steam like a person who isn’t supposed to open a package, but has the tools necessary to do so. The GCFs cannot be used without a Steam wrapper of some sort.
GCF pretty much won’t be cracked, it has a 256 character key. lol
