So I work at a local cafe where we serve coffees, espressos, lattes, baked goods, breakfast, and lunch.
The owner asked me to come up with a playlist for music there, and I haven’t the slightest idea where to start. Anyone listen to any music that would fit it, because I don’t really know what to put on it.
I don’t listen to or know shitty hipster music, so that’s why I came here? Just some Coldplay and shit? Maybe like 3 Doors Down and some bad pop singers, (Sheryl Crow)
?? Anyone listen to stuff like that and have suggestions?
I’m not exactly the type of person who listens to relaxing, smooth music. I can’t tell the difference between “good” relaxing music, and bad relaxing music, the owner picking me to come up with this in the first place is just a bad idea.
try some trip-hop/future jazz kinda stuff
DJ Food, Massive Attack, Portishead, Ronny Jordan, DJ Krush, are some names that come to mind
dub/reggae can also work, like dreadzone, augustus pablo, dub syndicate, …
some hip-hop like a tribe called quest or de la soul maybe
chill drum & bass, like high contrast
some coltrane-ish jazz
theres plenty of rock that’s relaxing and smooth
folk, blues, …
dont know what kind of atmosphere the owner is going for though
Ok burb, your post actually helped me, I might put like DJ Food - Turtles in there, gonna look into some more music. Thanks.
It’s a coffee shop that serves lunch and breakfast in a suburban NY town, not going for a very exotic style, but I really, really, hate John Mayer so I don’t want that stuff playing.
Agreed
Also, please pick things with quiet/little/no singing, I hate going to those kinds of places and having to selectively listen to the people I actually want to talk to.
Or, if you want to prove that he should have picked someone else, play the entire St. Anger album. (idk why everyone hates that album, it’s got some good songs. The snare gives you a headache, but it’s a good kind of headache.)
The doughnut/coffee shop that my wife works at plays bluegrass…but we live in Alaska, things are a bit different here!
