Pirating VS Buying

It’s business. If someone doesn’t want to buy a product, that’s their right. They have no right, however, to pirate that product.

OMG shut up with the right or wrong crap it is not part of the argument!

Just admit that with those types of pirates there is no lose of money.
Sure there may be pirates who would buy the game if they couldn’t pirate it but I am not talking about those ones.

Where did I mention that I support piracy?

But they still have no right using the damn product! So that argument is invalid either way!

John, what hes saying is that this thread isn’t supposed to be about convincing each other whats right or wrong, its about stating your own opinion and backing it up with evidence.

I think that extends beyond the scope of his capabilities.

False. I did not lose any money. You seem to be playing fast and loose with the meanings of things. Losing money is the active theft of money you already have. Not making money is not lost money, regardless of the reason you didn’t make the money.

You pump many hundreds of thousands of dollars in in the HOPES of making money in the future. If it doesn’t pan out, for WHATEVER reason (I don’t give a flying rat’s glute if someone makes a pitch perfect copy of what I’m selling; I can sue them for copyright infringement and wrong usage of my copyright), I did not lose any money because I never HAD the money in the first place. How do you lose something you don’t have yet?

I have never pirated a single thing in my life. I’m just telling you the facts. If you want to ignore them and somehow ascribe malice to me, fine by me. Just know that you’re not advancing your argument one iota and that is just wasted time and energy.

Wait…aren’t we in the debating hall? checks Yes. Yes we are. I didn’t realize that convincing someone was a part of debating.

and shut the bloody fuck up about rights, you americans want to know why everybody hates you, IT’S CAUSE YOU BITCH ABOUT PEOPLE’S RIGHTS ALL THE DAMN TIME.

Seriously, “NOONE HAS A RIGHT TO DO” is about as much as an argument as “NO U”.

Hell, I feel like pirating something now just to spite you.

EDIT: and no offense to you americans that act like normal people. :stuck_out_tongue:

:s igh: Alright, I’ll leave this thread.
It’s still beyond me how people can support stea- oh, I mean “copying and distributing to torrent sites”, but whatever. I don’t care anymore. Believe what you wish.

I’m sorry, but who is supporting stealing (which is the taking of an actual physical thing)? If you want to use loaded words in an attempt at misleading vividness, of course people are going to call you on that. And, somehow, you equate copyright infringement as somehow less of an offense. Let me tell you something:

It is.

The Supreme Court of the United States doesn’t call it stealing, why would you? And don’t try to snark-edit. It is this exact kind of misleading vividness that leads to all sorts of problems (“masturbation is the murder of millions of potential people!” for example).

I never said I supported piracy.
I was just giving an example to an argument.

I feel like posting this in every debate thread ever.

I like ComedyCentral’s approach, they air their shows online with an amount of commercials that isn’t even a nuisance. And it’s all for free and they still make a healthy profit from it.

See my avatar.

I pirate things because, frankly, I can’t afford to buy all that stuff. However, I don’t pirate new games, and I’ve bought alot of the music I’ve pirated.

I do the same tbh. First I sort of check out if it is worth buying.

Yeah, for me, pirated software and games are sort of like complete demos.

All software should be free, developers are people who are getting paid to create digital entertainment, in reality they are being paid to be creative which is to be entertained. This is because society is so attached to entertainment, it’s considered totally vital. In a proper society, real work consists of getting all the things needed for people to survive. In our society, keeping the balance between supply and demand also means paying thousands of people to put hours of imaginary bullshit into plastic discs and sell them so that people can use expensive equipment to pack their brain full of false memories, but it also means forcing millions of workers to assemble useless one dollar products shipped directly from china so that your girlfriend can go to the store and buy a new dress, stylish shoes or makeup.

In all seriousness, I’d be glad to work in the entertainment industry and I wouldn’t give a shit if some poor bastard somewhere can’t afford to buy my product and resorts to piracy, it’s a society devoted to making software free, and I would be fine either way, my life is not threatened by the presence of entertainment or lack thereof. But digital media is (or used to be) a means of creating art, and art will never die, people will be creative weather they are getting paid to do it or not.

If I’m a fan of something I enjoy buying those things like the 9 DVD Alien DVD Collection and every game that has something to do with Half-Life.
All the stuff that comes along outweights the price for those things.

But I can understand people who feel somehow betrayed by buying a game with 6 hours of gameplay for a full price.
Or a hundred addons for a game, yes EA, I’m looking at your sims-shitology.
And yearly updated games may be dissapointing, too.
Again, EA, you’re the very best example with your yearly sport games.
NBA/FIFA/NHL/WTF/LOL/WUT times 07/08/09/10 is just too much.
