Physicists Discover Inorganic Dust With Lifelike Qualities

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/08/070814150630.htm

What do you think? Does it seem like we’re getting a bit too excited over the interesting reactions of plasma particles, or could we be on the verge of understanding how life came to be so many eons ago?

I would definitely like to think the latter, but until I learn more about this I’ll have to remain on the fence about it.

edit: I found the journal that proposes it.

Interesting if true, more research needed.

This would be so cool if it turned out to be true!

Hmmm…
I’ve never understood why scientists think that the conditions have to be the same as earth fore life to exist, as though life evolves in the same way every time, and can’t adapt or change.

This seems like my kind of topic.

I also agree with Pyro.

While alien life could evolve under different conditions, if this inorganic dust with life-life qualities is real, than it would need similar conditions to a primitive earth to actually form into helix-like structures. Either way this is very interesting and could revolutionize how we see life.

You’re totally right.

Hello all,

for plasma to form you need to heat it up to extreme temperatures, this excites the electrons, allowing them to jump rapidly through all the shells, effectively removing the valance shell. When this happens it leaves being Ions, which having differing electrical properties will arrange themselves in interesting patterns.

But life evolved under the sea, using nitrate molecules as ATP so the cells could produce energy. We still don’t know how eukaryotic cells came to exist, there are numerous theories, but I don’t think that any of them involve charged molecules, correct me if I’m wrong.

Interesting nonetheless,

Here’s a bit more to read on it: https://science.howstuffworks.com/weird-life.htm
Apparently there still isn’t a whole lot of information about it. But, dust that reproduces and evolves seems a little too amazing to be true.

This is a 3 year old article, so not really “breaking news.” Still, kind of interesting…reading it now…

Yea this is interesting, maybe aliens made of metal? xD

it’s been suggested before.

Wheres my crowbar, im gonna whack the shit outta that dust!

STOP! I’m with a dust rights group, and this is clearly cruelty against the entire dust species. You’ll be hearing from my lawyer. > :frowning:

As a Ph.D student, in Physics… Sometimes you do to much math, and create models, and simulations, that say it could be true. But when it comes down us finding a true example, it’s like… 0.00001% chance of us recreating, or finding it. xD

at any rate it’s more interesting than john conway’s game of life.

This sounds like the setup for a bad movie. Or a Doctor Who episode.

british military intelligence considers “UFOs” to be a plasma phenomenon. I wonder if lifelike behavior exhibited by plasma-energized “dust” could explain the ‘intelligent’ qualities of UFO flight…

That was ONE definition. Not the ONLY definition.

Is that a reply to my post? How intriguingly vague.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
