Paddy's Tavern

Even I knew that o.O Mostly because my older brother knows everything about beer…

Yeah, but you don’t chill it, either.

In some parts of the US it is illegal to sell beer cold…some styles of beer are meant to be consumed at a warmer temperature than others as well, just because it’s beer doesn’t mean it should be consumed ice-cold!

I’m not saying that. Chilling it reduces the flavor.

Try Sake. It’s awesome.

ayup… tis wonderful actually.

Ahah, what the fuck. The only time beer is never chilled is if theres no room for it it in the firdge. All pubs/clubs serve beer cold. The beer at someones house dosn’t get given to anyone unless its cold either.

Fuck knows who told you that.

I don’t know…That’s the generally accepted fact for the UK, and most of Europe. I guess I’m wrong.

Yes, you are.

EDIT - I think I am just clueless now :stuck_out_tongue:

Lager should be served at about 5-7 degrees celsius (40-45 fahrenheit). This is the kind of beer most often drunk in the US and mainland Europe.

Ale (such as bitter or stout or an IPA), which is much more predominant in the UK (although Lager is also very common here) and Belgium than other places, should be served at about 11-13 degrees celsius (50-55 fahrenheit), which is still a fair bit cooler than room temperature. I work in an award-winning real ale pub and I can tell you we are meticulous about serving our beer cool enough to be refreshing, without chilling it to the point of killing the flavour.

Lager is much more bitter - if it’s warm enough to actually taste all that bitterness it’s horrible. Ale has many more subtleties of flavour that would be lost if it was chilled too much, and ‘real ale’ still has yeast in the cask or bottle and continues to ferment slightly until it’s served for drinking, keeping it alive and fresh. If it is chilled too cold the yeast will not ferment - as opposed to lager, which is made with strains of yeast that ferment at a much lower temperature than ale yeast - although finding live, as opposed to pasteurised and carbonated, lager is rare anywhere.

For the same reason you should never, ever put ice in a good whisky, like a single malt scotch, or a proper cider. Why get a really nice drink and then render it too cold to taste properly?

PS, we don’t all have bad teeth either, and not all of us drink tea constantly.

ew who the fuck likes warm beer

No-one, as we all just explained. :hmph:

Nice read, really. Seems you know your stuff. There’s one generalization about you guys destroyed. :stuck_out_tongue:

But you do all wear top-hats and swing black canes around all day, right?

I request a picture of Bean doing that :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: Don’t forget the monocle!

And the well-endowed moustache and mutten chop combo.

The english love to drink. Alot. I think my new “saturday night” phrase sums it up:

ITS ONLY BINGE DRINKING IF YOU STOP! WAYYYYYYY!!!

Hahaha. = ]

It’s official guys…im going to be living in London in less than a year :3 I am hoping to learn some customs and break some myths!

Dude, if I owned a top hat or a cane I totally would. I might have to look around.
