Overwatch sounds

I don’t follow. How would a hissing noise make it easier to hear? I think static would actually make it harder to understand.

Honestly, the overwatch Voice was annoying as Hell, you’d Kill the Metrocops and the voice would come up “civil protection, Unit Down, at garbled” and if you killed multiple Metrocops you’d hear the same thing echo’ed as many times as there were metrocops just killed. samething go for the Combine soldiers, Only more garbled and gravelly. as far as the overwatch voice goes, I’d say “Good riddance”. the voice can’t be used as ambiance. End of story.

Actually, the radio voice didn’t come on when you killed Soldiers, just Metrocops.

I think he was trying to say that later on in the game, when the military has control of the system, that there is only static and NO announcements. To be honest, I think it would be annoying depending on how loud that static is. Would it only turn on periodically and then off? I think the HECU radios did something like that at times. There would be like 2-3 seconds of static and then nothing.

Well the Military was actually using the PA System to give out orders to Soldiers and BM Personnel, as well as warn them of potential hazards in the area.

For this part VOX could say something like, “Engaged Osprey, inbound bogey approaching your 6” because of the Xen manta flier thing. If I heard that during the game, I think I would have to try and look at what was flying towards me.

The, Black, Mesa, Announcement, System, is, now, under, military, control.

I loved the PA system, it was so much clearer than Overwatch ever was. To me the Overwatch announcements always seemed very echoey, like the speaker was very far away.

However, the PA system was perfect. From the standard pages and calls made pre-disaster, to the diagnostic readouts after the resonance cascade, to the eventual military takeover, the BM Announcement system was a great source of information in-game.

I don’t think it should be made silent towards the end though, since it is a computerised system. Since the military took it over instead of destroying it I see no reason as to why it should stop its automatic messages in the Lambda Core.

That’s because the Overwatch Voice was broadcast from the Citadel.

That was kind of the effect they were going for. It’s more of an atmospheric sound effect than dialogue you’re supposed to hear. Have you ever wandered around near a train station or airport and half-heard the announcements?

Rail stations in Queensland have pretty loud announcements, and I don’t miss them unless the speaker is busted.

Note, I said ‘near’ not ‘in’.

I know.

The announcement system from HL1 was one of my favorite parts of the game. It just added that much more realism to the facility.

I even have BM announcements set as windows sounds for when my OS starts up and shuts down.

I toyed with that idea for a while but ended up being to lazy to find the WAVs. I’ve got Evangelion sounds instead.

All you need is GCFscape (and hl/hl :s gcfs of course), they’re in valve/sound/vox I believe it was.

In my opinion, the VOX system was a bit hard to focus on, it would have been nice if there were speakers around to indicate that it is about to be used.

By the way:

Screen-shot or didn’t happen :3

can’t you just click on the link?

He meant a screenshot of Ram’s version

Just make it louder and a bit clearer.

It was already very clear, but it could be louder. Overwatch 2.0 was a lot louder in Episode 2 but still wasn’t very clear.
