Opposing Force/Blue Shift/Decay: Your view of the caNon.

Canon or not, OP4 and BS didn’t contradict much to HL1’s
But it’s cool to see the events from s different perspective like with character retcons from HL1 (Like GTA4 & EFLC)
For the Race X, wouldn’t it be possible if another race discovered earth because of the Resonance Cascade? Like the Combine? With they’re “leader” (That worm thingy) keeping the portal open from their side (like Nihilant)
Tho at my 1st playthrough, I thought that the Xen aliens failed to breakout from Black Mesa, so the Race X comes as a “clean up” force

Yes, YES, someone else who liked Blue Shift!!

I got decay setup for both Steam Half-Life and classic Half-life.
For classic you’ll need the Won2 Steamless CS patch.
It’ll take like little over 5 hours to finish that game btw :expressionless:

How about VALVe gives shepard his own game series?

…They already have opposing force…

and VALVe has said that they’re not gonna do anything with him.

So Race X would be the Black Ops to the Xen alien’s HECU Marines.

Or maybe Race X was another alien resistance group trying to fight off the Nihilanth’s army thinking he was still working for the Combine?!

Or maybe they’re just fucking redundant & there’s no way to justify their existence that doesn’t sound like a half-baked afterthought.

KILLJOY.

Regardless, if you actually played a game with a story to put them in it wouldn’t seem so half baked.

And why is that?

It still wouldn’t make sense.

Because it could possibly be an exciting adventure filled with charm and a rivetting story. With indepth characterization that go well beyond anything your unimaginative mind could conjure.

Why not? It could make perfect sense. It MIGHT feel tacked on and half baked but there is no reason it wouldn’t make any sense.

Exactly

“[Gearbox only brought back some of the old HL1 content because they wanted them to fill the same roles as they did before. All unnecessary content was left out as it wasn’t needed. The iconic headcrab and zombie being left out would’ve elicited too strong a feeling of nostalgia, so they had to come back. Developers don’t really like bringing back old content unless they’re able to do something with them that they never could have before so they don’t fill the same roles, which clearly wasn’t the case here so I don’t know why I’m saying this. Nostalgia just isn’t a good enough reason reuse things, even though it, again, apparently was here–at least in the case of the zombie and headcrab. That isn’t to say we don’t all get nostalgic at times, and clearly developers might think it is a good enough reason and factor it in anyway. This argument/theory is valid because it, while carelessly sensible in one or two instances, is mostly incoherent.]”

Did you actually read what you wrote?

Well, right off the back you missed the fact that I wasn’t talking about Gearbox.

Them being the Black-Ops to the Nihilanths army doesn’t make any sense because there was no sign of them anywhere in Xen with HL1 & Stephen Bahl of Gearbox (who came up with them) said that they came from a dimension other than Xen.

How about finding some ways that would make sense instead of insisting that it can?

What we can’t retcon what the original creators thought but didn’t actually solidify in the game? They may of had an idea but it certainly didn’t show up in the game at all, leaving their origins and purpose potentially completely up for making something out of.

Also, if you want some ways just READ THE FUCKING THREAD. We’ve come up with a few, and you EVEN CAME UP WITH ONE YOURSELF.

You didn’t read any of the posts on the other thread then went off on one about shit I didn’t even say, and I fear your about to do the exact same, either because your ignorant or simply because your looking for an argument/looking to shit on everyone elses ideas.

Which leads me to quote the last message from that…

So if you weren’t talking about Gearbox, then who were you talking about? The topic of this thread is on the three games made by Gearbox set in the Half-Life universe and how they relate to the canon of the actual Half-Life universe.

Again, who is the they reusing HL1 content that you are talking about in this thread dealing with the supplementary games that Gearbox made?

Your comment about what you think a Half-Life 2: Opposing Force game should look like, if one were made, was interesting, and I think that it could make for a decent game if done right. However, the post of yours that I quoted just doesn’t make a lot of sense.

“The Half-Life series canon has never been officially defined by Valve” - so all shut up

I think that’s the whole point of the thread… Since Valve have very loosely defined what is canon–if anything at all–the OP seems to be asking what others make of it. IIRC, Valve have said that canon comes second to game-play, which makes it sound like pretty much everything isn’t 100% canon. Anyway, if you don’t want to participate in the thread, as it seems, then maybe you should shut up and not participate in it. :retard: No one is making you participate but yourself. Besides, I think the Russians are invading. :pirate:

I’d love to actually spell out word for word my ideas on an Opposing Force 2, however I’m seriously thinking about putting it all together with storyboards, concept art and some level cross sections, as well as gameplay enhancements and such and trying to get it to Newell or someone else in Valve to get a professional opinion on my ideas. It’d be called something like HL-2: Opposing ForceS Ep 1 for a start, as I just don’t think Half-Life 2: Opposing Fore 2 Episode 1 ( 2 - 3) etc really slips off the tongue :stuck_out_tongue: Although the extra 2 doesn’t seem to make that much difference now I’ve typed it.

I really don’t see why they wouldn’t go for extra episodes to build up the background story if done right. Especially if they are looking for side projects after Episode 3 and before HL 3 ( if there ever is a HL 3 ).

It wouldn’t need to go anywhere near the HL2 story or its expansions, so I don’t see why there would be a backlash from fans. It’d be much more action orientated with very few puzzles, and be a usefull testing ground for the future of the main series.
