Only option is video stress test

Maybe I’m doing this wrong, but after starting sdk 2007, the main menu pops up with only 3 options: video stress test, options, quit

I don’t know how to get to the actual game

Start it through steam. what you are opening isnt Black mesa. its just the Source engine test.

OK, I’m having the same problem. All files are in the correct folders, but when I start the application the only options are video stress test, options and quit. I can start it through Steam, BUT only through the “tools” list–it does not appear on the “games” list even after MULTIPLE times exiting and reopening Steam. What am I missing??

Once installed you should see “Black Mesa” in your steam games list. If it’s not there try restarting steam & make sure it’s been installed in the directory:
Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\BMS.

That’s the problem–it isn’t in my game list, no matter how many times I restart Steam.

The directory Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\BMS is definitely on my system and contains plenty of files–how do I know if all the files are in there? Is there a specific exe file I should be looking for in there?

steam needs to finish downloading the source sdk

I’m having exactly the same issue myself.

like is aid you dont have the source sdk 2007…its requires to play the game. Black mesa don’t include this you have to get threw steam…steam should auto download after you install black mesa
and its about 3 gigs so depending on your connection could take a while

…same happened to me when i tried starting game with out this

There should be a gameinfo.txt file in the root BMS folder. That is the actual file that tells Steam to list the mod in your game library.

It’s right where it should be, but it doesn’t appear to be doing anything.

Yep, mine too. The gameinfo.txt file is there, in the path Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\BMS, but there’s nothing new in my games library.

OK, just for fun I copied hl2.exe into the “BMS” folder, which made Black Mesa appear in my list of installed games on Steam (after restarting Steam). It started to run when I pressed play, but then stopped with error message “hl2.exe has stopped working.”

I’ll keep trying…

To clarify, hl2.exe was previously in the path Steam\steamapps\myusername\ source sdk base 2007

OK, I copied the entire folder Steam/steamapps/myusername/source sdk base 2007 into the folder Steam/steamapps/sourcemods/BMS, restarted Steam to get Black Mesa on my game list, and this seems to be working!

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
