On A Rail Uncut - Re-Adding Cut Areas/Scenes (Expansion Project)

B2 in the beta was one of my favourite moments of the game. That’s all I have to say right now… uhh, bye

I just listened to Office Complex. In my opinion, I like Office Complex better and I think it fits better, too (but I’m fine with either one)

It’s up to you Text, but using unused music is always an added bonus

To me, I would go for the majority on that

The old Office Complex OST sure fits with the atmosphere, while keeping similar tones to some other soundtracks of Black Mesa (it sounds a bit like a softened version of some of Surface Tension’s OST). The difference with Dark Skies is, you feel better the tension around, even if the yard seems deserted. Also Dark Skies sounds more like a progression than a quick break from the heat underground.

They’re both good… but I kind of think that the original Office Complex is a bit too creepy sounding… I think the only problem with Dark Skies is that it goes on too long. It doesn’t frame your action the entire time it’s playing, because there is so much you have to do during the 3 minute chunk of time. A somewhat shortened version of Dark Skies would be ideal, IMHO. It’s tense, but also calm. Frames the moment without taking it over.

Also, as you said, the Devs may have plans for it. While everyone likes to see unused concepts re-introduced, I think Dark Skies is the better song for this scene.

I copied the Office Complex OST and renamed it as the Dark Skies track to compare them both when playing the game (first time with the real track and the 2nd time with the Office Complex OST). I like both of them.

Edit: After thinking about for a little while, I prefer the Dark Skies track. It fits the map better than the Office Complex OST.

Pretty much. Office Complex is also too fast paced for a calm outdoors area. And honestly, I never really liked the original song.

If you can find a way to shorten dark skies to be the length you’d like, that would be the best option methinks.

I got an idea for the A2 Map.
Would you consider, adding the Security room?, with the weaponry carbets in this area?, and for two Security doors too? and add the Ceiling Turret up on the ceiling, and not up the ceiling vest, so this will spawn the Turret, after you touch these Security doors, which you are not supposed to go in to the room, here is the blue print I made.

Why, because I thought it would be funny, just to fuck the player up

Sorry for my spelling errors

Varg.666, I believe you meant map A2 not map A1 since those 3 images are from map A2.

Yes that is true, I just fix it now, thanks PCGameCrazy

After changing the Ost to experiment, I was surprised to see how it really changes the mood an I came to the Conclusion that I kinda prefer Office Complex. While I really like Dark skies, because it really brings the joy of finally being outside, Office Complex is more dark and dramatic, and I think it suits best because when you really think of On a rail as a whole, is supposed to be a very dark chapter, even the uncut makes it even more with the apparent more bloodshed being spread in the chapter and the other 2 soundtracks being quite dark too. Also when you think about it, the joy of being outside is taken away by the idea of the military controlling all of it, and in B2 that is very evident with the turrets and the choppers, thatsmy opinion.

Now after playing in B2 again I thought about the sniper scene, I like that you took away the double sniper glitch at the tower, but now it seems odd that the sniper wouldn’t try to shoot you from its side when it could easily do it, so what if you took away that hole/window from its side and made it a complete wall.

I would not say it with better words, well done sir!

I’d prefer to have the sniper covering both sides if that’s possible, to prevent players from exiting easily the area without dealing with him first.

Concerning the sniper scene, would it be possible to have the door at the control room’s back open? That way players would have two different ways to escape the room, though that might also break the feeling of being pinpointed by the marines. Also, there’s a soldier spawning on the tracks behind the building. I’m not sure if it’s a bug but he wasn’t moving at all when I left the area with the tram.

For some reason, it is extremely difficult to get a grenade into the side window of the sniper tower. My suggestion is not to get rid of the window, but to board it up. Unless you want the sniper to cover both windows and can make it apparent to the player that the front window is the “right” one.

About the snipers - I would also prefer to have him attack from both sides if that’s possible. You should also be able to escape from the back door of the security office. You could then backtrack to the warehouse using the crates as cover and get the drop on him via the small door.

Well, that’s a horrible idea whatever look you take at it.

Yes please.

No, I didn’t see them, just some HECU, even the boxes are removed in those area, normally they are behind them, even didn’t see corpses of them…

Thank you everyone who’s played the beta so far. I assure you all, I’ve read and considered all the feedback and have acted on a fair amount of it. Some changes are too big for beta 2 (considering I’m going to release it tomorrow) but may make it into future versions, and some I don’t agree with. But rest assured I have read everything and appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts on how to improve the beta. I actually personally think the beta’s been really successful, I really haven’t had any major complaints, and I was certainly expecting a few of those! So that’s great, it lets me progress forwards even faster.

I apologize that I don’t have the time to reply to every single bit of feedback individually, which I would like to do. I just don’t have the time. I’ve been unemployed for a while now while trying to finish this project and I’d like that to end, so I’ve been devoting a lot more time to working on OaRU, and less on interfacing with the community. While I do regret that slightly, it’s for the best in terms of my life. I’m sure you guys understand. Please don’t be discouraged from posting feedback and thoughts. I appreciate it greatly and make sure to take in everything. The fact that I don’t necessarily reply to everything doesn’t mean I’m not listening. It means I’m working on the maps!

It’s not possible, as far as I know, without two snipers. That’s why they were both there in the first place. Maybe I can devise some kind of clever system where they alternate based on where you’re standing, but I’m not sure. I’m absolutely at the brush limit - I added 3 brushes earlier and went over the limit. Worst comes to the worst, I’ll just barricade off the left side as someone suggested.

RE: Office Complex track debate

There seems to be a fairly even 50/50 split concerning this track change, actually, which is kinda what I was expecting. As I am quite attached to Dark Skies myself, but also like Office Complex, I think the best course of action for now is to stick with Dark Skies. This just avoids the circumstance where the BM Devs decide to do something with the track and I end up looking like a fool. Plus, I think Dejan and his music is fucking fantastic, and seeing as I already have his Year of Death on A2, doesn’t hurt to complete the set!

Don’t forget, it’s always possible for players to substitute the track for Office Complex simply by renaming it, which many people did to test it. Obviously what track is the default track is still an important issue though, and based on what I hear, I’ll now ask the question:

Should I shorten Dark Skies?

I have a mate who’s skilled at audio editing so it shouldn’t be much trouble. Would it be better a bit shortened? Obviously not to the extent it was on my first video, where it was only 45 seconds long, but I could maybe trim 30 seconds or so of fat from the song. Again, I’m on the fence about this personally, because I really love the build up and the layers which get added as the track progresses. But I don’t want to let my love of the track override good gameplay and scripting, so I’ll see what you guys think and weigh your opinions.

In my opinion, I don’t think Dark Skies should be shortened at all. It’s fine the way it is.

move the sniper back and angle it a bit, this would reduce its firing area in the main yard but would allow it to fire out the side.

That’s weird. Could you try installing On a Rail Uncut Beta again and see if the headcrabs and the boxes return?
