It’s not unnecessary, it only breaks the repetition of the same containermodels…
He cannot put robots like the NS-4 or NS-5 model in it
double post
Stuff IS happening in this complex. The first floor and the rails are filled with soldiers and vorts going at it. As far as the second floor goes, it’s not crazy to think with all this going on that some soldiers managed to make it upstairs. They were also just waiting for you to press the override button to ambush you, so they do have a presence there.
Bad idea or not, it wouldn’t be out of place for the reason that things there need to have already happened.
I had an idea although subtle about hearing rats sqeaking in the tunnels of OAR…
Was there a HL2 model for them?
Rats might go well in on a rail?
there was no rats in hl2.
Max payne and MGS however…
If you’re gonna add something, add cockroaches. Those were plentiful in HL.
Even in the vending machines. =D
And in the computers were living bug (that’s why they call a computer error a bug nowadays…)
I second this but with some variation. I think having maybe one there would be nice, then have a couple portal in. Another cool thing might be to have a couple of Vorts ride down on the elevator on the wall.
The only thing about that particular area is that it would make no sense for that door to be closed while the HECU are in there. There’s also the fact that the HECU in this current version of BM are no pushovers, so putting them right next to a bunch of zombies would not end really well.
There is a sound for rats in HL2… I am guessing this was used in the subway section… We don’t have to see any but it might add a little something to hear one or two sqeaks especially when you enter into an area through a door.
So far as the cockroaches go… Yeah why not but not in the tunnels… There is a scurry sound in the HL1 files which should be added in areas where there are cockroaches present. To give more realism which was absent in BM original.
Yes.
Sure.
No.
If you’re gunna say no you should at least explain why.
However, it does occur to me that Vorts probably don’t know how to work the elevators. So, derp.
But maybe instead they can jump downt he elevator shaft and come into view that way. I mean, nearly every other time we fight them in BM they either teleport in or they are already standing there. Having a couple Vorts find their way to the player would imply that they are doing more than just standing around waiting for something to happen.
There’s a dead marine on the elevator isn’t there? He could have triggered it and the vort followed him. Actually, that could be a cool scene: we hear the elevator moving, then zaps and screams, then the elevator comes into view with the vort standing in front of the corpse.
Yeah I really like that idea as well. It would add the extra something that the cave section needs right now. I didn’t get a chance to do a long writeup of the new version yet, but everything has pretty much been said so I’ll wait until the next update.
One thing I will say that I’m surprised nobody else has, maybe because it’s a bit harsh is that I think the crane with the awkward second operating ladder that is inaccessible should be scrapped entirely. I would much rather see a custom made guard tower, another crane or other structure made with propper than to see that over used model just thrown in. The ladders don’t work well on it and the model shape is awkward when you’re up there and it comes off as amateur and not unique for the map. Surely something else could be constructed to give the player the view. Maybe something as simple as a ladder up to one of the rooftops like where the sniper used to be.
A little unrelated but…
Text, have you tried out that Source SDK 2013? What’s your take on it?
About sniping the .50 cal, I’m not sure if I suggested this yet, but maybe a gun shield? I think that should be possible to make…
The bm devs would have to port the mod. Text can’t do anything with it in the uncut projects…
Nobody else has ever liked it, but I always thought that it’d be a great way to set up the vorts as intelligent if there were scripted events where they figured out through trial and error how to use basic human technology like doors and elevators and rail cars, culminating in a scene that’s very vivid in my head where Freeman uses a crane to kill a bunch of vorts, gets off of the crane and enters the area that he just cleared… and is promptly attacked by a vort piloting the crane.
