What are your thoughts on the movie/whole world ending thing?
Movie looks kinda cool, might turn out to be all SFX though.
As for the actual end of the world in 2012, ain’t gonna happen.

2012, bite my shiny metal…! But the film itself looks good… As for the mayan calendar thing, maybe the guy making it just got bored and thought he’d make the rest of the calendar later?
I think the calendar is a bunch of bullshit, the maker probably got killed (or bored, i mean come on I’m pretty sure while he was making it he was like “Fuck it a couple thousand years is enough”) or it could be the biggest troll in human history

Not quite sure where the doomsday idea originated. But the mayan calendar has gone through several resettings already (to 0 basically). The calendar is functioning in cycles, and 2012 will mark the end of the current one.
I’m dissapointed that a movie based around central-American shamanic mythology is so…biblical…
no worries, happens every day. One christian country right now celebrates pagan holiday as an official state holiday. Even in crisis, all institutions are closed for 4 days.

The mayan calendar actually says it’s the coming of a new age in 2012, not the end of the world, people just assumed thats what it meant.
From what I’ve heard it’s not really the end of the world, it’s just that everything will stop working. Cars, electronic stuff, everything.
Thats why its so disappointing to see popular fiction take the “new age” idea and turn it into biblical floods, meteors, etc… Seems to me like a failure of imagination.
Because every building in the world will sense that it’s 2012 and instantly crumble! Waters will surge out and seek out human beings for consumption! Meteors will fall from the sky! All on the very same day!
