Perhaps when the scientist that’s hanging on falls, the guard (if still alive) pops his head into the shaft, looks up and makes a comment?
You actually got a point there. I hope the devs notice this.
Maybe the guard should wait for player to jump, and if he successfully does it, guard would do the same, but fall into shaft. And, if the player somehow fails to jump and falls down, guard would look into the shaft and make comment about it.
Sounds good, although it would work either way.
I said they should wait for Gordon to send the elevator down.
As for Office Complex needing a climax, I meant just that. There’s a steady flow of combat, but it doesn’t reach a climax (like killing the tentacle or launching the rocket).
Not all chapters need some huge finale. Unforeseen Consequences, Apprehension are 2 other examples.
Apprehension didn’t need a climax because of the mugging scene; an abrupt, unexpected twist that provides a nice transition to the next chapter. UC was mostly an introductory chapter, more suited to training than actual combat. I mean, I’ve always felt that OC ended abruptly and needed something to top off all the combat and puzzles in the chapter.
My thoughts exactly.
I do like the idea of the OP though i always thought it was silly that the guard just suggests an idea, then stands around.
:hmph:
Awww crap. Apprehension had the capture and crusher part didn’t it. I just did that part in HL: Source as well. Doh.
Oh man, I never even considered how cool that section will be in BMS.
lulz, dey shud totally make it so that the guard follows an animation that makes him climb all teh wayz up teh sahftz and openz the door in teh liftz, den get’s teh SHOTZ. boomded.
Uh. Wow, that came off way more sarcastic than I was aiming for, almost like I was dismissing this entire thread’s topic… Which I’m not!
I think it would be cool if they did something, but that would just be silly.
[COLOR=‘Red’]Seems like this thread really belongs in the Suggestion Box. Moved.
I wouldent make him jump but i think it would be cool if he looks down the shaft and sais something like “Nevermind” or “That would of been dumb”
How dare you! I am not a fag and I’m very easy to please! I like turtles.
Srly gtfo.
I think what he could do is: go to the elevator, look around it, see the big fall, see the distance between him and the ladder, then say:
Uuuuh I think you should do it and I will see if more zombies are coming over here… I will cover you while you… uuuh… do it… Go now I will check the zone down here and make sure you are safe while you… jump.’’ And then if the player doesn’t jump in some time a lot of zombies magically appear and come to you and he tells ya: ‘‘What did I said? Jump Gordon! I will take down those bastards!’’ then ya jump you get up there and when your get on the elevator you hear him dying
I actually think that’s one of the better suggestions - it’s plausible and a more heroic way for the guard to stay behind instead of pussying out. The only problems:
- The player could help and kill all the zombies from the safety of the ladder
- The player (sometimes) has a load of guards and scientists following him that he’s saved, at least that’s what I did. For them all to get ambushed and presumably killed by zombies would be an anticlimax.
I’m sure the scene’s been completed long before now, but in my eyes a compromise could work. As soon as the player jumps across and has climbed a wee bit, a couple of zombies appear at the end of the corridor. Lights could dim or go out at this point, and all the player sees is the flash of the guns as they’re firing. A guard could then shout that the way is too dangerous and they’re going to find another way out. Fades to silence. Basically you need a) a good reason for everyone not going, and b) some sort of small dramatic ending that compensates and makes up for everyone abandoning the player.
I actually support that idea quite a lot. There wasn’t really any urgency in the situation (The scientist was gonna die anyway), and making a few zombies appear behind you as you jump or if you wait too long could be a neat way to say ‘get the fuck up there’. Then they could overpower the guard and just chill in the hallway making those gross croaking sounds they do.
Well, most players could easily kill the zombies, unless it’s some unrealistic amount, which would just be dumb. Seriously though, am I the only one who could imagine a security guard trying to make that jump?
It’s not that, it’s just the effort involved in doing the unique animations, doing them so it looks good and so they climb up the elevator shaft without getting in the way. Also, if people have a group of guards and scientists following them, then it would look just as stupid for them to stay as it would a single guard. You can’t have them all doing the same journey. Besides that it makes sense - the security guards are there to look after the scientists - that’s their job above everything else. Gordon can evidently look after himself and has a greater chance of survival, so their focus is on the scientists’ safety. They’re not all gazelles when it comes to jumping.
Plus, it would be nice to start WGH alone.
