Sure and CNN has just as many. 50/50

I don’t think that conservatism is a mental disorder or that it’s tantamount to treason.

Nor do I feel that liberalism is.

So, you reject the idea that “liberalism” is considered by many to be some kind of pejorative?

Not at all. I look at it as both parties have equal feelings toward each other and both have the ability to express what they feel. And, interestingly enough, they both are entirely wrong.

Tbqh, I don’t agree with half of what the conservatives are doing, even more so with the liberals. You couldn’t call me either if you look at what they’ve done. The conservatives are being wimpy and the liberals are pushing as much as they want (but the people don’t) through Congress…I don’t agree with any of that…

Sorry, but the American people liked what’s in the Health Care Bill by a vast majority. They were against the bill not because of what was contained but because it was too watered down–too neutered-- and gave too much ground to people that weren’t going to vote for it anyway.

If you ask people if they’re for what’s actually in the bill, they’re for it. If you ask people if they’re for the bill, the numbers are far different. Most of the people that are actually against the contents of the bill, however, are against imaginary provisions such as “death panels” which don’t exist anywhere.

@Omega_Absolute: You honestly think that it’s the same on both sides? You have those in the Tea Party movement calling for an ARMED REVOLUTION. Where did anything like this happen on the other side?

can we have a “liberal vs conservative” megathread? I’m surprised that hasn’t happened yet.

So far in this thread it’s 100/0 since nobody has shown an example for your side.

The reason right-wing America is terrified of liberalism is propaganda, of course. Liberalism can easily be seen as anti-business, and therefore for-profit media will be biased towards conservativism rather than giving both sides equal time. TV-consuming Americans are exposed to conservative views more consistently than liberal ones, and therefore only hear the Right-wing definition of liberal as an attack (“big gummint moar taxes”) rather than the actual views of liberals.

Corporate media only allows debates between pro-corporate neoliberals (i.e. the most conservative Democrats) and pro-corporate Republicans (excluding libertarians for the most part, who are to the left of avg GOP). So the “center” of any televised debate is well to the Right of the actual center between Dems and GOP on average. This is how the center gets shifted to the Right (i.e. Mitt Romney’s health care plan is now SOCIALISM), and also why I have no respect for political centrists who fail to understand why their position isn’t actually the center of anything.

…and it doesn’t help that our highest rated cable news channel claims to be “fair and balanced” and “the most trusted name in news” despite having commentators who willfully lie to their primetime audience about the current administration’s intentions.

It’s pretty sad when polling shows that a comedian (albeit, a very intelligent one) is the most trustworthy newscaster in the US.

It’s not about Fox News, it’s the way every network operates. Framing the debate is as important if not more than what is actually said.

Agreed.

tbqh, there wasn’t a single good conservative candidate up for grabs. Sarah Palin would have been kick ass, but the media blows her out of proportion and makes her look like a fool, just like they did with Bush.

Have you ever seen the media make fun of Obama?

You agree that you think Romneycare is socialism because it’s slightly left of dead-center between the most right-wing Democrats and the most right-wing Republicans? Mission accomplished, then.

“Have you ever seen the media make fun of Obama?”

the media loves corporate Centrists like Obama, but yeah, the bowling thing during the campaign. also i think he caught some shit for his ‘first pitch o’ the world series’ or whatever recently.

As far as making Jr. Bush and Palin look like fools, I guess the media can’t always avoid doing their job, i.e. reporting on facts, when the truth is too obvious to ignore.

:fffuuu: you couldn’t be more wrong. you’ll noticed Bush was doing fine till circa 2006, when all the liberals went flooding into Congress.

Reporting on the facts… that’s pretty funny. If you pay attention you’ll notice every “news source” has tons of slanted reports.

The media isn’t making Palin look like a fool. All the credit for that goes to her.

Not sure if you catch any of the news outside of the US, but pretty much all over the world, Palin is being mocked for her idiotic speeched, cheesy expressions and flat-out obvious urge for fame. And it’s not like a newspaper in Belgium has any business in trying to make an American politican look bad on purpose.

On the other hand, the world had high hopes for Obama to save the world from the US, I’m pretty sure his election resulted in more cheers outside of the US, than within. So far (imho) he has disappointed me. I expected more radical “change”.

In terms of international relations, the US has kept sailing the course it set under Bush Jr. But nationally, I feel like he’s accomplishing a lot to change the lives of all the Americans in a positive way. The rich didn’t turn into poor people, and the poor now have a brighter future. To me it seems that a person like Obama is the person America needs to solve its own problems. Sadly, a big part of the American people fail to see this because of the lies and slander spread by right-wing extremists like the Tea Party, fearmongers supreme.

this response implies you don’t understand what I wrote. oh well, I’m not going to hold your hand.

Let’s see… Europe is almost socialistic in one form or another no matter where you go… oh lookie! I found a reason!

“change” to socialism? Why do the liberals have this fascination with Europe? Their economies aren’t exactly kickass, healthy, great. The media reports “oh look all this great stuff in Europe with similar health care stuff Obama is trying to push through” … they don’t report on the disadvantages of the bill, you’ll notice.

Save the world from the US? Central America is so dependent on us it’s not even funny. When we collapse, the world is going to crash. We provide much more than others do us. I think our time as a “superpower” is coming to a close… next… Russia maybe? Not a European nation I wouldn’t think, they’re a bit crippled… I could see a Middle-Eastern becoming powerful, what with the business in oil being gigantic.

Dear Obama: keep the change.

What would your reason for socialism in Europe be? Because it works?

our economy is just fine, our population is healthy, it’s great here
Your generalizing amuses me. Nearly every country in Europe has its own healthcare system. They all work better than what you have now in the US.

No, the world will not crash without the US.

Nearly every day in the run up to the election. I’ve seen this photo too many times to count:

I’m no expert on Sarah Palin, but Bush was definitely a genuine idiot. The media didn’t even need to slur him, he just did it for them.

Maybe it’s not as direct as other forms of attack, but Obama has recieved plenty of flak from conservative media.

Are there any? Please list them if so.

Over-inflated self importance. The world does not NEED America. Central America runs off drugs, losing US finacial support would weaken the governments, not the countries. Russia, (I notice you forgot) China, Europe, Saudi Arabia and even India have decent economies; if America went under all that wealth would just be redistributed.

If America suddenly collapsed we’d be facing a lot less Western bias in the world.
