NPC: Hit reactions

Why don’t we make the character’s signature weapon a crowbar?

^Genius.

I dunno; physicists aren’t very strong… maybe if we put that physicist in some sort of powered armour… it’d have to be properly justified that he would be wearing that armour though, so how about making him a physicist that handles anomalous materials, and the power armour is some kind of advanced hazmat suit… :retard:

Of course, to justify his wearing of this suit, he’d have to be in some kind of hazardous environment when the game starts…of course, they’ll have to make it really clear that the environment is dangerous.
This is just off the top of my head, but maybe there should be some kind of test in which the physicist does something and causes some kind of accident?

the video you posted is GMod, not HL2, which is the reason there aren’t any hit animations. Try watching an actual HL2 video next time.

LMFAO

I suggest looking in to NaturalMotion’s Euphoria engine (like in Grand Theft Auto 4) the hit reaction is amazing and the characters react respectively to their environments (grab on to ledges and other characters to save themselves, fall properly and NOT on their feet as if gravity ddnt apply) I’m sure its possible. :3… maybe a little ambitious but still… none the less possible…

Not in the Source engine it’s not. Euphoria is not something that just slots in just like that, all nice and easy.

It’s possible if the team had millions to spend on a license which really wouldn’t provide that much of a benefit this late in to development. In fact, it would be rather redundant in a game such as Half-Life, where most things can be handled by scripted animations and events. Too bad Natural Motion doesn’t license their engine to independent dev teams, only to large publishers and developers. So yeah, your suggestion is kind of null.

…what he said (c:

How about FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU? xD

None the less I still think that it would have been a supreme physics upgrade to an already stunning physics engine… I dream of the day when i hit a marine in the face with my crow bar offsetting his balance sending him falling down an elevator shaft, to see the stunned look on his bloodied face as he desperately tries to grab on to a ledge to save his life (while still alive and struggling and not simply because once his health reaches 0 his body turns to ragdoll…) *sigh… oh well… one can always dream…

Surely if he’s hit in the face he would be dead, or at least in a deep coma?

From the way Gordon swings the crowbar, I’d say it’d be painful but not fatal.

Oh, with the crowbar. Oops.

It looks more fatal in HL1 than it does in HL2.

Obsidian: Euphoria will appear in more and more games in the coming years. Just never in source titles. The closest thing would be physics blending, ala Left 4 Dead which is also a pretty cool system.

There should be guns. And they could shoot things like… bullets maybe.

Maybe we should make the army go and try to catch the protagonist once the accident happens.

Or maybe like aliens pop out of portals and shit.

Please, Raminator, close the bloody thread.
