'Not compatible with version of Windows' Error Message on install

Hi, I’ve searched to see if anyone else has experienced this problem but no luck so far.

I downloaded the installation files via a torrent no problem, but upon double clicking the setup.exe to start the installation I get a message saying 'The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer systems information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version, but have no problem installing any other games, Steam or otherwise.

Is Black Mesa 32 bit windows only? Surely not - I understood that it would play on any Steam compatible system.

Can anyone advise what might be going on here, and anything I can try?

Thanks

there shouldnt be any problems, even if blackmesa is 32bit. try running the installer as a administrator.

Also: try re-downloading the setup file (you dont need to redownload the .7z file).

If all else fails, install it manually.

Go here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods
create a folder called ‘BMS’ then put all of the files inside the BMS folder from the .7z file. Restart steam, Black Mesa should appear in your library.

I downloaded and installed (and ran) it just fine on Windows 7 Enterprise x64.

Yeah, I just finished playing it on Windows Home Edition x64.
