No HUD?

I’ve had the HEV suit for quite awhile now and there is no HUD at all. Am I missing something?

EDIT: Now I have the HUD just starting the game today. Odd.

No, you’re not missing something, I have the exact same problem. I have also found that I can’t jump high enough to overcome obstacles either.

You have to jump then duck, took me a while to remember that.

As someone still stuck without an HUD, do you have any idea what might have changed?

cl_drawhud 1
hidehud 0

try both those commands

Still no luck, even re-downloading and with those commands. I guess I’ll just be doing this hardcore-style. Woo hoo!

Try changing your resolution? Source tends to show it’s menus and HUDs off-screen if at a bad resolution.

Yeah, that was suggested in another thread. I have tried that with no effect. It would make sense, except that my crosshair is missing as well.

Is the folder that the mod files is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods called BMS. That’s very important

This is a long shot, but have you tried installing the black mesa fonts, located in the resource folder?

I play BM in wine in GNU/Linux and apart from the missing HUD (and some BM unrelated graphic issues as I use the free nouveau drivers and NOT the nvidia blob) all perfectly well.
To the missing HUD issue. I don’t see anything related, not even the “loading…” on the screen when switching areas in a level. ALl is completely OSD-less. First I thought it would be by intention… but I guess it is kinda impossible to play that game if not even a crosshair is shown.

So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

As a side note, I did try the console-commands to no avail.

regards

edit: And yes, the installation went into the default folders and went through without a glitch.

Playing BM using Wine + nouveau could be really painful, why you do this to yourself? Install nVIDIA binary blob drivers, they are the best consumer-quality drivers for linux available among all other GPU vendors.

As for the problem: most likely it’s the issue with the HUD post-processing shader (turn it off in Options -> Black Mesa -> Visual). It could be caused by a number of things starting from Wine failing to emulate required D3D api functions properly for this to work and ending the game erroneously choosing dxlevel 80 or 81 renderpath which won’t work properly for BM. Read the sticky FAQ thread for info on how to change dxlevel to 90 or 95.

P.S. Last time I checked HL2 performance under Wine + dxlevel 90 and 95 it was pretty playable with HDR set to “None” but pretty slow with HDR set to “Full” or “Bloom”. I’ve used GTS 250 and GTX 550 Ti cards for performing tests.
