The Xbox series has always been pretty badly designed, but lets hope Microsoft gets their head around it next time.
Why do they call it Xbox 720? When you see it you turn 720 degrees and walk slightly askew. (because you are dizzy)
People have been talking about an xbox 720 even before the 360 was released, so there’s abound to be a shitload of fake links and info.

Anyway to answer the OP’s question (the shock!)
I read an Xbox magazine monthly, and the general consensus is that there won’t be another Xbox for quite a while. While they originally planned to replace the 360 in 2010, the release and popularity of the Wii changed that. What’s now happening is Microsoft is releasing Natal, having realised that the future development of consoles does not necessarily rely on making them more powerful (maybe why PC gaming is slowing down? Do I agree? A discussion for a different thread I think 
)
So we’re going to get Natal and a slimline version of the 360 (possibly being revealed at E3), expected to last until sometime between 2012 and 2014
If you dunno what Natal is a quick look on wikipedia will sort you out. While its an impressive piece of kit, I’m interested to see how it will be utilised by developers (after the inevitable shower of shite Wii fit clones)

It’s really retarded (although not really suprising) for Microsoft to develop a new xbox with Natal coming up. I mean really, Bill Gates didn’t finish school and all but he’s not that dumb.
EDIT: for the (one) people that don’t know what natal is: It’s basicly a better/worse version of the Wii. You don’t need a controller and every movement is shown on the screen. Thats why many people (like me) regard it with a bit of scepticism. They eye toy died a death, like the UMD, betamax and minidisk, but I reckon they wouldn’t develop it unless they had a decent plan to make it last longer than 15 minutes
