NaNoWriMo Thread!

Anyone trying it this year here?

I neither have the time, nor the patience for such a an arduous task.

Neat idea, though… if it’s real. :hmph:

Wait, why is it fake?

wannabe novelists, unite!

I love writing, but for me it’s a very leisurely pursuit, not something I’d try to shoehorn into one month. Hell, I’m writing a novel right now; there are ideas bouncing around in my head constantly, but I haven’t actually touched the novel in months.

It’s real, a bunch of people on another forum I go to do this. I haven’t done it though because I don’t have the time or patience to.

I’mma write the Greatest American Novel, even though I’m Portuguese.

I think it’s more meant as an exercise than a way to write a legitimate novel. The idea is that most people don’t even know where to start or can’t get very far because they’re perfectionists and do 300 drafts of the opening paragraph and nothing else.

I’ve never done it, but it’s a good way for people to just throw away standards and write in bulk. It allows them to get used to the simple action of writing a lot. It makes it easier to start on something more focused and intentional later on. You have to write crap in order to get better and write something really good. Writing takes practice and this is a good way to get a lot in, throw it away, and then start on something worthwhile with no hard deadline.
