My Halloween '10 Costume

Some of my friends have mentioned that I bear a passing resemblance to Gordon Freeman, and I’d like to see if I can put together an HEV suit for next Halloween, or maybe a convention or the like.

Anyone have any useful suggestions on how I could make a convincing hazard suit on a limited budget?

cardboard + crayons.

and duct tape, of course

Green florists foam, Wonderflex plastic, primer, leather/pleather and maybe some orange carbon fiber.

I bet you look nothing like Freeman, but just have a goatee.

The one and only Freeman lookalike is Ross Scott. And that CERN guy

you could ask the paper modeling community, anyone in their group of artistes could make a 1:1 or you-scaled Hazard suit.
though that’s just speculation and I DOUBT they could get the model files to you within the year let alone you constructing it within the alotted time.

Papercraft templates are easy to make, but a bit harder to make well. You take the model you want and convert it to (OBJ, DXF, MQO, 3DS, LWO, STL, KML, KMZ or DAE) format and import them into Pepakura Designer, rescale it, then print it. It would be a truckload of pages, so it would be better to edit the model into multiple suit part models, removing the fabric textured polys. Also, set the texture in Pepakura to wireframe without texture so it doesn’t use up all the ink. From there it could be a good idea to reinforce the inside of the paper with cardboard or something similar.

I know, I have made the object in my avatar in full size 110 lb cardstock from a template.

pretty neat. I messed around w/ papercrafting but i suck ass at making the patterns cuz its like uv mapping but even more annoying. made ssome cool models otherpeople made but they all got squished when i moved house

by “I made the model in my avatar” I meant I used a template.

Still looks like some pretty serious effort so whatever you do never move house.

If and when I DO, the pulse rifle’s getting it’s own box.
Back on topic. I’d say the papercraft hazard suit would eat up, say two or three ink cartridges and, around eighty or so pages (no including structural support)

i reckon the best way would be to construct a simple version using papercrafft and cardboard as a basefor sturdyness and build more detail offa that

'specially considering every person’s arm/leg structure is different.
BTW if you go the papercraft route, you MAY want to wear something underneath. From experience, paper tends to chafe quickly.

Nice, either way I figured it could be useful for LonePaladin or anyone else who wanted to try it.

Dr. House, i wonder what is his name again?

zim is truly an ass of epic proportions isn’t he?
