Black Mesa Source reminded my brother of how much this game means to him, and he decided to make it permanent.
Thanks for all the great work guys!

Actually a pretty cool tat. Is he going to finish it with the ring though?
wow
woah… laser treatment here i come
lol
I wonder if that op post count will increase…
I’m pretty sure the “Half-Life” symbol is literally the nuclear marking for half life… when chemicals reach their “half life” so to speak. Could be wrong though…
Nice tattoo though! I’ve been tempted to get something like that, very cool
I’m pretty sure it’s a symbol to represent wavelength or something along those lines, and also to represent the half-life of irradiated stuff, but I’m no physicist so I could be way off.
:what:
That’s rich. I suppose the proper lambda and the lambda design Half-Life uses are different enough, but I’d still go add the ring around it for good measure. Or “Half-Life,” underneath, or something.
Well, that doesn’t seem so bad. Of any symbol which could be confused for LGBT, I’d pick that one. The design is pretty distinct from normal lowercase lambdas anyhow.
It reminds me of a tattoo I saw of an American Ninja Warrior contestant. He got his lambda tat with a circle in hazard-orange ink, I was so excited to see a Half-Life tat on national television.
And yes, it’s most commonly used as a variable for wavelength.
Right on man, i got my half life/portal tattoo a couple weeks back. I think the lambda looks solid without the ring around it.
Interesting tattoos. I’m pretty sure Half-Lifes lambda sign has nothing to do with the the time it takes for something to half decay . I’m pretty sure it’s only meaning in the series is due to the Lambda sector and core in the original, where all the shit goes down.
I’d of personally gone for the Black Mesa sign if anything, but I’ve already got that on a t-shirt and will have on a hoodie. That’s about as permanent as I’ll go.
It has pretty much to do with the half life. Since Lambda represents the decay constant you will end up including it when calculating the half life of a given process like e.g. decaying nuclei:
But honestly I don’t think there’s any deeper meaning to it. I once read that lambda was originally chosen as symbol for Half-Life since its appearance is reminiscent of arm holding a crowbar. Thus I would suggest that it was later decided to design some of the motives in the game around that symbol or / and vice versa.
Edit: Hmm, considering the age of this thread it wasn’t necessary to post this.
