Mod release speculation thread

writing the story for the half life games

on my birthday!

Q1 2010. I highly doubt 2009, its not set in stone put it that way.

My school did this briefly. It was short lived, but I did find a program that somehow got around the connection blocking. It was called bitspirit, some garbage program, but it allowed me to torrent while that restriction was in. May want to consider trying it out, if that’s what you’re into.

Also, set up a server and home, and SSH in, torrent, and then just grab the files off there and pull them back to your school.

But if you are having a bad day it could be made worse if something goes wrong in your attempts to download black mesa. Murphy’s law.

The website update is a sign that release is immanent. I’m guessing it will be less than a week between the site overhaul being completed, and the initial release.

I’m not sure that the website revamp is of any significance regarding the release date, but at least it provides some sort of milestone / variety of events to break the mindless waiting before the mod does release.

You’ll shit bricks.

Dev’s are gods, gods don’t lie. Right?

If it’s being released, it’s either on HL’s release date, Christmas, or the resonance cascade (if it happens)
EDIT: I mean if it’s released this year. Left in for quotability.

i have to agree with you dude and man this mod is making me excited for november!

so many hopes are up…

so many hopes just a-wait’in to be slashed.

…,drawn, quartered, seasoned, and made into gullible stew.

I am confident that the single player portion will be released this year, however I am not confident that the multiplayer portion will be.

The devs have been surprisingly transparent about the status of coop especially, in that they are unsure that it will make it in to the initial product.

Other than the few hardcore people who will cry foul at this and say that the devs promised them “the whole game” in 2009, to most I believe this will be deemed an acceptable sacrifice in order to get the single player game – the portion which we could almost all agree is our most anticipated – out sooner without delay.

Also, if they did not have adequate time in the initial release, the devs could then also put in certain things they didn’t have time for such as developer commentary and achievements (not saying these wont make it in for sure, but its a couple of the things I see as “extra content” that could, in case of massive time crunch, be sacrificed for the initial release and released later alongside co-op).

“Fuck the MP and Coop” I’d say, if then we could get our hands on the SP faster.

Unluckily, I doubt we actually could.

Seeing as the web-designer and the rest of the developer team have nothing to do with eachother, that’s a completely unfounded and unlikely scenario.

My personal opinion? 31 december. No kidding, and its because:

a: It is generally acepted in jest or otherwise as the mods release date.

b: as such even if they finish early, they might as well take the time that they have allotted themselves to polish things up, seeing as the community has so many people saying december 31st anyways.

One thing I can promise you is that devs in general are most certainly not gods. Incredible people whose tireless efforts most often go completely unappreciated by the public at large? Yes. Gods? No.

I think this is the most likely case. Since they’re going to (I assume) finish it in extreme late 2009 anyways, why not just stretch the 2009 release date as far as possible? A more polished experience never hurt.

Based on earlier screens and comments before the crash, I thought that the multiplayer maps had already been finished. Maybe not the mode but the maps at least.

Correct me if I’m horribly and proveably wrong.
