Mistakes made by Valve

no,I don’t think like that,I think they should have thought about the piracy in the xbox live, that’s it.

lol, a PC company worrying about piracy on their console port.

I didn’t say Valve doesn’t make mistakes, I said that giving away free games and updating older games is not a mistake and almost certainly has no bearing on the release date of the Half Life games. It wasn’t a general statement, it was directed at the OP.

And I agree, episodic content was probably one of their mistakes, since it didn’t seem to help them get the game finished any quicker.

I’ve already seen/played that mod, I just want HL2 back on the the 2004 source engine.

The worst decision they’ve made was making episodes for HL2 instead of finishing it all at once. Half-Life 3 would probably be Half-Life done by now, were this the case.

Oh yes! I understand it’s about SDK updates…

… but imagine how pissed we all would be for not having any HL to play since 2004. Right now, I’m pretty satisfied with the amount of HL I played over the past few years. If the last HL release would have been HL2 6 years ago, then I wouldn’t be able to wait another couple of years for HL3. That would suck.

If an episode comes out, it keeps players busy for a few years. The same would apply to a full HL3, so like this, Valve is doing less, more often, and keeping everyone sort of happy.

How is Steam for Mac a mistake? 5% of the active player base use a Mac. In 2009, Steam had 25 million active users, so if that number still holds true today, 1.2 million people log on to Steam on OSX.

That’s not a bad number, considering OSX holds 5% of the OS market as well.

Also, L4D1 was their biggest mistake imho. Released way too early. It should’ve been L4D2 that had been released first (obviously without the 2).

Steam for Mac is the single most horrific thing Valve has ever done. I don’t mind the fact that every game they’ve ever released has been called vaporware at one point or another: translating Steam to Mac ruined hundreds of mods, good and bad, and in one foul swoop completely destroyed my interest in the mod community.

all because they wanted to extend their reaches to the Mac.

MACS ARE NOT PCS. THEY ARE FOR ARTY SHIT AND NOTHING ELSE. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A COMPUTER FOR GAMING AND ANYTHING USEFUL, GET A FUCKING PC. IF YOU’RE AN ART STUDENT OR A COLLEGE KID OR A RICH INDIE FUCKING HIPSTER GET A MAC. you mac users ruined the only thing we had left.

i hope you’re proud of yourselves.

You sir speak the truth.

Up next in the Valve Time queue- Half Life 2 Episode Three: Episode One?

Valve makes NO mistakes. Ever.

This post reeks of massive amounts of derp.

Valve made many Mac-Users happy.

I don’t have a mac and I don’t plan to get one in the foreseeable future, but god damn, your post made me cringe.

This kind of blind and ignorant fanboyism sometimes makes me ashamed of being a PC gamer.

A couple people have said Valve doesn’t make mistakes. That’s usually true, but I can think of two;

  1. HL2 2003 Release Date
  2. Ricochet

Those were both pretty bad.

Eh, Ricochet being a mistake or not can be subjective. :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, Why do you care so much? I don’t give a crap who use PCs and Macs, since it’s not my business. I think you should care about your own computer and not get annoyed by other people’s other choices.

Some people are different than you, and they therefore choose different equipment. If you can’t accept that, then you’re probably also racist and hate people who have a different skin color… no?

By the way, there’s a thread about fanboys, maybe you should go ahead and read that, I think it refers to you

I use both Macs and PCs, so I can tell you some things you don’t know: Macs can do exactly the same stuff as PCs, and they can run Windows as well. On the other hand, PCs cannot run OS X. Do some research before you post false facts!

How exactly, pray tell, did Mac users ruin Steam for you? Did Steam change in any way, shape, or form for you because of Mac users? If it did, then you should get yourself checked out by a specialist!

A lot of people tend to link the updated GUI and general new version of Steam with the release of Steam for Mac. They think that Valve -had- to change all those things if they wanted to please Mac users.

Well let me tell you right now that while it’s awesome that Steam now runs natively on OSX and many people love it for that fact alone (I am one of those), the way they implemented it stands in dire contrast with every other app on OSX. It’s not uniform with the general UI, and it doesn’t follow any of the Apple guidelines on user friendliness (I, for one, find it surprising that Steam in its current form even got Apple’s approval… I guess Apple really wanted gaming to start booming on Macs).

The changes in Steam, the update of HL2 to the Orange Box version of Source, whatever came with the 2010 update… Those things happened because Valve wanted to, not because they had to to please Apple or its users.

Similarly, in Adobe Photoshop for Mac, the GIU is EXACTLY the same as on Windows. It’s inconsistent with the Mac platform, and generally I would say that it’s Windows-ish, and not Mac-ish. It’s not the PC users’ fault, it’s Adobe’s fault, wanting to keep the GUI the same on two systems that have different GUI standards.

Blaming Mac users for Steam’s GUI change is simply ridiculous, and shows that the person who says this has no understanding of basic logic! Valve changed the GUI, from a two-color, flat basic GUI to a more rounded, shiny GUI. People may not like it, but it’s the direction in which modern GUIs are going today. The rest is 100% subjective.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
