Minor front page tweak

Hi
Just a small idea I had for hubi - the slideshow part where we get 6 thumbnails is cool, but at least over here in NZ, takes a moment to load. While it is doing so, that area shows some text reading “JavaScript must be enabled”, which it is, which is kinda confusing at first.
If you chuck some tags around that text, then it would just be a blank area till the pics load, or if someone has JS off, then the message will show as needed.
Almost thought this too small to mention, but since it’s so quick to fix, figured I might as well… hope it’s helpful.

It would also be nice if each 6 stayed a little longer on screen. I know you can easily go to the media section, but if I pick one screenshot from the front page, take a quick look and then shrink it down again, I’ve already missed the chance to look at any of the others!

Perhaps a mouse-over + zoomed view pause? And/or manual forward/back?
(The steam store front page flash thingy usability comes to mind…)

I have also experienced this :frowning:

There is also the problem of on slow computers, before you see the image it changes to the next six, which causes the computer to lock up (tested on an old laptop). So maybe just slightly increase the time they are on screen.
:freeman:

Oh? Well, it sounds to me like this particular issue affects at least four million, three hundred thirty-one thousand, six hundred people!

Damn! Foiled by population growth over a 10 year period!

EDIT: AS USUAL

That being said, we’re actually estimated to be at more like 6.8 billion.

I’d imagine every webdev worth their salt cares about the impression their site gives, and since I think Hubi is in this category I figured I might as well mention this since it’s an easy fix, but quite visible. I understand he’s prolly quite busy, so I’m not demanding anything - just a friendly note.

and I thank you very much for that. I will go ahead with you idea.

Now that’s teamwork.

you know it’s sad but true

Haha yeah

And you think that’s funny this sign is from 1999, it’s gone up in the past 10 years!

frontpage and forum fixes applied.
