Mass Effect thread

Why is everyone hating on ME2? It was easily the best playing game in the series. ME1’s gunplay was worse than the original Kane and Lynch. Sure, ME2’s overall plot wasn’t as good as ME1, but it was a damn sight more fun to play and far better than driving that fucking moon buggy for hours doing pointless shit.

moon buggy was great. and it gave the game an actual open universe feel.

in ME2 the whole universe was a series of connected hallways cluttered with 3 foot high walls

MAKO

IT’S CALLED MAKO

IT’S THE BEST THING IN THE MASS EFFECT UNIVERSE

along with Liara[/SIZE]

It also controlls like a chicken on springs.

The Mako was pretty cool, but when you take it on every damn planet to get those mineral/collect quests done, you get sick of spinning about like a barrel just trying to go down a slope.

I was hoping ME2 would fix some of the mako issues, not remove it plain and simple

Also, about the ME2 hating I personally enjoyed it but I was doubtful that bioware would successfuly link everything together in the 3. All of your choices from the first two games should have had a huge impact on ME3 and they had none at all. Thanks EA.

to the question asked “Why did they think it was okay to do the exact same plot device they used in the first game, down to forcing him to kill him self. It was incredibly lazy.” allow me to rant a bit

ME2’s writing was extremely lazy.
How many times did someone who was believed to be a good guy, turn into a bad guy? Wilson at the very beginning, the warden on jack’s fetch mission, nikket for miranda’s, jacob’s dad, Malin during Mordin’s loyalty, the SPECTRE in hte shadow broker DLC, the scientists in the Arrival DLC, Archer in the Overlord DLC,
how many times did a gun get pulled at the end of a loyalty mission for “dramatic emphasis”? Miranda on nikket, Mordin on Malin, Jacob on his father, Jack on that other guy
not to mention most of the “decisions” throughout the whole series result in either you meet the same person you did before because you saved them, or another person who does the same exact thing anyway with a different name. That’s what bugged me the most in the series. there was hardly ever an occasion where if someone died, or was convinced not to do something, it made a difference later. killed the rachni queen? cool they made a new one. rewrote geth? eh well we’ll just make it so they ally themselves with the reapers again anyway. and there are so many other examples… its like… if bioware really wanted to make decisions matter and have a big impact, things needed to be more permanent. Killed the rachni queen? they are gone. done. no reaper-rachni. rewrote the geth, cool now just deal with geth-quarrian relations, don’t bring them back to the reapers. someone died, tough luck. mordin for example, i think it would have been really interesting for the only way to cure the genophage, was to both save the data and mordin lives. (curing a genitic desease that has plagued a race for hundreds of years should not be easy)

Also i feel like the a lot of the animations for stuff was really off and not fluid. (slight tangent rant on indoctrination theory) the whole unlimited ammo bit… that’s bioware saying “we just really dont want you to run out of bullets and thats all” they did the same thing at the beginning of the tutorial. when you first get your pistol it has unlimited ammo. also, i saw in one argument “the speed that you walk doesn’t match the speed that the ground is moving so its as if your floating” or the animations for walking that slowly just have a bad sync… The “armor burned off + in space = Shepard would die”… Bioware has shone a HUGE disregard to skin exposure to space. jack liara grunt and plenty others have exposed skin at times when they are exposed to space / zero pressure vacuum and nobody seemed to care then…

i dunno, i just really felt like a lot of the decisions made ended up having hollow conclusions. i’m probably looking at it a bit too harshly, within reason it would be extremely difficult to pull off the expectations i had… but still bioware is suppose to be one of the top story driven RPG developers… if not them to pull it off who else?

end rant.

About exposed skin in ME2, fucking Migrant Fleet. IMO, it would be a huge insult if a bunch of humans got on one of my “clean” ships without environment suits, and instead opted to just throw a mask over their mouth and nose. At least Grunt wore a helmet. But he didn’t wear sleeves.

:hmph:, Bioware. :hmph:

That said, I found Mass Effect 2 quite enjoyable. Combat was much improved over the first, and yes, the story wasn’t as good, but it was by no means bad.

Idk about you guys, but all the people in my team were decked out in fuul helmets and armor. No exposed skin whatsoever.

The only true example would be Javik in ME3. They couldn’t make a helmet for him? Or are Protheans invulnerable to the dangerous extremes of space?

Well I wouldnt go too hard on them for that, I mean its still a video game if you were checking for really in everything, not a single game out there would be good.

I actually don’t go hard on bioware for the whole exposed skin bit. i mean it does bug me every now and then but overall i’m willing to look over it as suspension of disbelief. My point of bringing it up was in reference to the indoctrination theory peoples saying that its proof of him being in a dream when really i just see it as bioware showing their disregard again.

How fucking fun is playing Geth Engineer.

Free sniper for ME3 : just go to alienwarearena, make an account if you don’t have one already and redeem your free stuff. Also note that it only works for PC.
Enjoy

Yeah, fuckin’ EA…

Ugh, just beat ME3. I already knew pretty much all the details, but seeing it all play out was still devastating. I chose synthesis but now I feel like an idiot after seeing the indoctrination theory make it abundantly clear that destroy is the best option (I even made sure I had enough resources!). I sure as hell hope the “extended cut” is more than just, “oh look the Normandy decided to pick up everyone on Earth HOW CONVENIENT”. I can’t believe if you have too low of resources, they force you to do the destroy option, which then blows up Earth. :hmph:

If the “extended cut” doesn’t confirm the Indoctrination Theory or solve the horrible endings in some other way, I’ll be very wary of ever buying Bioware games again. I’d like it to have at least as much playable content as Broken Steel, but if it makes the ending ok, well that’ll be enough I guess.

Edit: Looks like they have another multiplayer DLC planned. Seriously, why don’t they just spend all this effort creating more stuff for the ending?

There will be no gameplay added, by the way. Only cutscenes.

Ugh. I know they said that, but I really hope they changed their mind.

Edit: At least the indoctrination theory will always be a backup that makes perfect sense to me. Even if the “extended cut” doesn’t confirm it, it’ll take a lot to convince me it isn’t true.

I have a question about romances in ME3 and I cant seem to find the answer on Google. Keep it spoiler free please. Also wasn’t there a mass effect 3 thread kicking around?

After having locked into a particular romance, in my case Liara, can you choose every renegade dialog option that comes up without unintentionally ending the relationship? I’m trying to do a pure renegade play through but went to play the romance out. Aside from the few paragon dialogs required to start the romance.

Mass Effect!
I nostalgia already

ME1 just set the bar too damn high. ME2 started to stumble and I’ll play ME1 for a third time before I ever play ME3.

story and atmosphere

Fuck you EA! Burn in Hell!

Beat ME 3 like 3 days after it was released and never touched the game since then… I was so disgusted with the ending and how bad it was and all the plot holes I Can’t even get myself to get on ME1 and that’s my favorite game of this generation… EA/Bioware really dropped the ball for me…

And as for the IT theory … Bioware isn’t going to go with that because of there artistic integrity and they are only expanding on their shitty ending with extra dialogue … So don’t expect to return to the ME universe for a very long time… Not until all of ME3 is scrubbed from my brain

You’re shitting on a game and you haven’t even played it? Typical gamer scum
