Loved the H.E.C.U Marines in this more than the original half life

I know some people here dislike how powerful the marines were but me and my friends loved it. I mean sure the Xen aliens were pretty tough but they’re fighting the military, the best of the best, highly trained professional soldiers. Only reason why gordon wins against them is because hes the main character.

I had always hated how useless the army is in some movies/games so its good to finally see our military kicking some alien butt. Really loved how the marines in black mesa wins most of the battle. To me the Xen aliens weren’t even that powerful of a alien race anyway.

I do agree with some people that there should be more xen aliens in the game, especially alien grunts but please don’t start making the marine side lose, i would still like to see them kick ass. I hope in the next game Xen, there would be some marine squads invading the alien world, losing some battles but also winning some of course.

Loved Black Mesa as much as the original already, for a free game it beats a lot of 60 dollar games out there. Can’t wait for xen!

No.

Yes.

Definitely needs to be more Xen creatures about. Compared to the amount of marines we come across the Xen seem lacking. More Vorts at least.

I Didn’t play HL, but I agree with you.
Hecu are powerful and this issue, force you to adopt a strategical approach:
1- Place traps
2- Lure them in a spot and kill them one by one.
3 - Headshots with a magnum at long range
4- Kill 1 or 2 and then flee
5 - 2 shots at a good ol’ explosive barrel
6 - outflank them etc…

I’ve found this part of gameplay really enjoyable!

Yeah more Vorts and Alien Grunts since those two are the backbone of they’re army, maybe a single alien controller in a big group once in awhile.

YES!!! + MORE YES!!!

Nope

You obviously don’t understand the Half-Life story well enough if you even think this is a logical approach for the sequel.

I don’t mind powerful, I mind cheap and unavoidable.

Antlion Guard in Half-life 2 is powerful. HECU marines in BMS are cheap.

You obviously don’t know how tactical and powerful marines are, especially in squads. These aliens really aren’t even that strong of a race that could give your own military trouble. If the alien in half life were like the protoss from starcraft or necrons from warhammer 40k than yes.

Could everyone posting single-word “yes” and “no” replies please stop acting like little children? You’re not in kindergarden anymore. I will leave the posts visible as a testament to your childishness.

Wow kid, you really don’t get it, do you? Let me spell it out for you.

#1.) This isn’t possible because the Marines had already withdrawn from Black Mesa by the time Gordon gets to the Lambda Reactor.

#2.) The only way to purposefully get to Xen is through the portal at Lambda Core, which the Marines never had control of and will never since they retreated.

#3.) “Squads of marines” could not navigate the low-gravity and disarrayed terrain of Xen. Even if they somehow did get there, ignoring the first two points I made, they would struggle in that environment. You are obviously the one that doesn’t know how Marines work. They train in earthly conditions for earthly combat purposes and earth-based tactics. Most, if not all, of that training becomes irrelevant in an extraterrestrial environment like Xen.

Your missing one thing, the xen aliens came to earth and had no trouble with our environment which is alien to them. So we could invade them back just fine. You must be on something if you think those goody two shoes xen aliens could even hope to complete with our military.

Im sorry but i will have to agree with the other guy on this. Just because you like marines and think they should kick ass does not mean they get to defy all logic. At the end of Black Mesa the marines have already pulled out and begun bombing the place. Gordon then escapes lambda through the ONE AND ONLY portal with the help of a scientist (who will probably be killed) which is most likely destroyed after he enters so how exactly would the military even get to the alien’s homeworld… Be logical.

If the marines did somehow manage to get to Xen. (Who the fuck would order that operation). They would easily be killed by the hazardous environment, and high levels of radioactivity… Do you not realize the only reason Gordon does so well against these aliens is because of his HEV suit? if a regular marine got spat on by one of those aliens his fucking armor would melt into his skin.

Once again, you’re out of your element. The Xenians are not native to the border-world of Xen, as Marc Laidlaw has stated, they were chased out of their original homeworld long ago by the Combine. They had to world hop from place to place and learn to adapt to new environments. As a result, they have more experience with planetary adaptation than humans, who have lived on the same planet since their conception.

If you want a game that flexes the U.S. military’s muscles, you should try a series of games named Modern Warfare; they are notorious for such themes.

You also ignored, either through ignorance or arrogance, the first two points I made based on the game’s story. This leads me to believe you might just be a troll. I’ll be departing this thread now, as you are already causing me a migraine and my blood pressure to rise.

I agree that making the Marines lethal was a great part of the game. It made the game fun and challenging, and very rewarding when you actually win.

However, making them win every fight completely breaks Half-Life story canon in every major way possible. Just no.

If they won every fight, then why the hell would they “Forget about Freeman! We’re cutting our losses and pulling out! Anyone left down there is now on his own!”

They needed more scenes with the HECU getting overwhelmed. It was a major plot point, and it was the single reason why the facility eventually was nuked as a last resort. Because they were LOSING.

^ And if you start posting about how much you like Modern Warfare and how Black Mesa should be more like it, the regulars will probably flame the hell out of you XP
