Linux Users

If you are a Linux user, please post here what distro. you use, how it runs, and you’re specific computer.

Fedora Linux
Presario C500
Runs much better then Vista, gaming is not really it’s strong point anyway so Wine will run pretty much anything you normally would, just faster.

Speaking of which, I need a distro recommendation. I install DSL on a SHITTY SHITTY laptop that I acquired for a tenner and a battered sausage, but GOD DAMN FLUXBOX IS CONFUSING, so I’m looking for an extremely lightweight ubuntu-based distro, so’s I’ll get the UI.

Note: I have acquired a total of 5 shitty computers over the last while, and am beginning to feel like sersoft.

Did you steal them? no? then you are not sersoft-y enough. :meh:

Debian in a EEEPC (Dual boot with Win XP)

if you are a linux user, wtf is wrong with you have a shower

Puppy Linux is the best minimalist distro. in my opinion.

Puppy Linux or Mint Linux.

I’m not too sure Mint would run on it…
It’s got 128mb ram and a 4gig HDD. Those are the only specs I can remember, but basically, it lagged like fuck when I tried to install xubuntu.

D:
I think Puppy Linux would be best then… just don’t run it on the RAM and it should be fine.

But I hate the puppy UI. It’s so… kiddy.

Well you got a cheap ass computer, what do you expect?

The damnded thing can run xp.
Which much to my chagrin is installed on top of win2k, which is on top of 98, and OH GON PLEASE NO.

I’ve used Puppy, Fedora, and Ubuntu on my laptop, use Puppy if it runs slow.

I know, puppy and DSL are the only two distros I’ve got working, but I really hate both of them (Actually, I rather like DSL, but as a recovery tool, not as a primary OS).

Give TinyMe a shot. It’s meant as more of a full-time distro than Puppy or DSL and should run well on your hardware. It’s currently in beta, but it works very well from my experience.

I’m using gentoo with KDE 4.3, it’s borked right now so I’m on XP. :frowning:

When I get a chance, I’ll format and start over, I’m not good enough with gentoo yet to properly diagnose all of my problems.

Once you’re 1337 with it, you’re going to have to hold my hand when I install it, you know that, right? :3

I’ll just quote from the installation manual :3

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) runs extremely well on a P4 2.66GHz, 1GB RAM, NVidia GeForce4… and actually boots faster than any computer I’ve had.

openSUSE 11.2 on a Dell Inspiron 1521 (Turion X2 1.6, 2GiB RAM, Radeon X1200 (RS690), with KDE 4.4.2 (factory).
Gentoo on my desktop (Athlon64 3400+, 1GiB RAM, GF7900), triple-booting with Windows 2008 Server and Win7 (which iHave to reinstall, because I’ve still got the release candidate and iDon’t think it’s working anymore).
