LAV-25/Abrams questions/suggestions

Hello again Black Mesa,

There were two things I would like to know about the HECU vehicles, one about the LAV-25, and another about the abrams. If these features aren’t present, they will pose as suggestions.

I’ve read on the BMS wikia that the M1 Abrams will be capable of moving around. While I think that is an awesome feature, I wish to know if the LAV will do the same thing. The fact that there is enough space for it to move around in surface tension certainly implies it. Plus it will be a cool idea to have an LAV advances alongside the infantry as it provides supressive fire.

As for the M1 Abrams, I saw the video where its turret rotates. Will the tank also be capable of pivoting its barrel vertically? I ask because if it only rotates on a horizontial axis, it will be easy to exploit if the player manages to gain the high ground.

A while ago, I asked if the Humvee was going to be a driveable vehicle (Thanks for the response Raminator). Although I have rigged vehicles to be driveable before, modifying a model that already has some of these features is a different story, because then you’ll have to fix what was broken in the whole reverse engineering procedure (which is usually alot). Plus developers frown upon their work being modified, so making these changes myself in the event the mod’s released seems out of the question.

I’m still confident you guys will finish the mod, so I hope you’ll fill me in on that, then I’ll know what to expect.

(I also read that the LAV can’t transport troops. I don’t know how you’ll pull that off, but I’ll leave that to your creativity).

Hope not, moving M1s already sound terrifying.

They won’t.

While the LAV IRL can carry a group of 4 Armed Soldiers, the LAV in Black Mesa won’t be used for transport at all.

Shame, I’m still going to miss that scene in Surface Tension where the IFV bursts through the wall and offloads 2 more Soldiers. It was one of my favourites :frowning:

Ahhh. I remember that too. The grunts were just sooo awesome back in the day.

Too bad Marines have only one way to break down walls :frowning:

Alright, Fantastic!

Yeah I kind of mispoke there. Although it would be nice to see the LAV be used as a ground transport, I’m pretty sure the developers can easily work around that. With cinematic physics available, chances are you’ll have to fight the LAV that will make a grand entrance instead.

Imo it’d be really simple to make an IFV that offloads grunts in a scripted sequence.

Just use the same method of offloading that the Combine Drop Containers use, but maybe with a different animation showing where they just hop out instead of a running jump.

The biggest problem with that is that’d need an IFV Model with a rear door that opens, I don’t think the one that have does that.

Oh right, and the animations for the grunts getting out too.

What still counts as a great expenditure of effort at this point?

Turning on Source SDK to make fans think that the devs are working on the mod while they go out, see a movie and get drunk having fun.

Yup- adding anims to a model is a real bitch in Source. Wish there was a way to bake them in without having to recompile so often- having an animation in the set that doesn’t work would take a whole decomp and recomp cycle to fix. I’m thinking about adding animations to blackout.mdl to make a shaky camera for my mod- it’s a pain in the ass to be sure.

Maybe if we’re lucky, they’ll still have it in.

Just have the APC drive through the wall, back up, and the grunts run through.

Or alternatively, have the APC drive all the way in and join the fight, with the Grunts following.

Just put on you Fedora, grab the nearest horse, and block the barrel with a nice rock

Wait, they are doing away with the bradley completely?

Yes

You can still recreate that scene. The LAV crashes into the garage, and soldiers enter by foot. It’s almost the same.

Sounds fucking sexy – a lot like that scene from Cloverfield.

That was such a cool movie. Really underrated.

meh, it was definitely less scarier than I expected. Almost not scary actually.

who expected scary?
Who watched movie for scary?

Not me but the hand-held cam can be quite a pain after 2 hours.
