Last Film You Saw

Gravity. Pretty awesome movie.

Edit: Turns out, they actually made a short film showing the other side of the distress call.

Edit 2: I’m an idiot. I seriously thought they made up the Tiangong station for the film, but they actually have one module of it up there right now.

This might help you all put your finger on what was wrong with Into Darkness.

Also, I love this guy’s column and this is a perfect excuse to pimp it here.

how can you read that

Yeah the style is kind of annoying but the content made it a great read. Thanks k3nny. I’m always interested in understanding the world of story-telling and cinema (tvtropes has already ruined my life).

Watched The Dark Knight Rises again. You can say what you will about plot holes and continuity errors, but like TDK before it, I love coming back to this movie just for the characters and the fantastic portrayals by the actors.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The quality of this movie was really weird. Most of it was good, but there was one scene where the audio and picture quality both went to shit. In a few different shots, the background on the left half of the screen was blurred, and in one shot there seemed to be dirt on the camera lens.

They also used what I thought was the TNG theme song, which was disconcerting.

Fascinating documentary. Portrays the common evil, that maybe lies in every human.

It was so surreal to see a murderer of hundreds of people dance in front of a waterfall with some girls, joking with his nephews, re-enacting his killing and torture scenes and after realizing what he did, breaking mentally down, puking in some backyard alley at the end. It leaves you baffled, really.

On topic, I don’t think Band of Brothers counts as a movie, but I re-watch the series currently. Last film that I really looked until the end would be 8MM I guess. Not too shabby, but Nicolas Cage can for sure get annoying and the ending was rather anti-climatic.

White House Down

The gun play and action sequences in general were very far fetched, but the movie itself was quite entertaining, and I mostly enjoyed it.

I watched Olympus Has Fallen back on New Years Day. It was really well done, actually.

Divergent. Never read the books, didn’t know anything about the movie other than the trailer. It’s the latest in a rash of movies based on novels for teens, so that doesn’t really help it stand apart from the crowd, but it’s decent enough. I can’t think of any particular high or low points, it was just generally ‘alright’.

The trailer made it look like a Hunger Games ripoff, and I didn’t even like HG that much…

^ from what I understand, it pretty much is.

I watched Frozen. I liked how Olaf spends the entire movie just playing off the other characters; it can be rare to see a comedic relief character who’s just that.

I don’t get the praise though… I mean, it was good, but it wasn’t GREAT. I assume a lot of it is avoiding tropes that are often seen in Disney prince princess movies (Price saves day, Princess needs the man, etc), and it is visually impressive, but the writing just wasn’t THAT good. Olaf was the best written character in the movie and he wasn’t all that interesting, IMO.

Really? I thought the two female leads had remarkably good character arcs.

Anna is blindly desperate for love, but also loves her sister, and feels hurt by how Elsa seemingly locks her out of her life. Elsa feels oppressed by the need to hide her abilities, only to unintentionally lash out and hurt others when she feels free to use them.

One thing that’s worth noting is that the movie doesn’t even have a real villain until about the third act; a better part of the movie is just about the relationship between Elsa and Anna.

Anna is voiced by Kristen Bell. So yeah, I really liked Anna’s character.

Speaking of I watched the Veronica Mars movie The other day it was ok I guess

I need to finish up the series before I watch that. I’ve still got 2 1/2 seasons to go…

A fan recut of the matrix reloaded and revolutions combining the two. They had some decent ideas to improve the films, but this person has no sense of rhythm.

I also re watched speed racer. Still love it.

veroinca mars was probably the most marxist teen comedy drama ever

The themes that are explored are good, but the execution could have went better. The first time I watched the movie, I missed the whole childhood bit, and quite frankly, it made the movie so much better. The mystery surrounding Elsa made the reveal of the powers and of her intentions more impactful, and the feelings of isolation more relatable, and really drove the themes home. After I watched the beginning bit sometime later, it just kind of ruined the feel.

Watched Chronos, For Guillermo del Toro’s first major feature It’s probably my favorite of what I’ve seen of his films.
